The impact of supply chain finance on financial sustainability in Jordanian SMEs Pages 2767-2776 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Amer Morshed, Bassam Maali, Abdulhadi Ramadan, Najwa Ashal, Munif Zoubi, Mahmoud Allahham

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2024.4.025

Keywords: Supply Chain Finance, Small and medium enterprises, Jordanian industrial businesses, Comprehensive policies

Abstract:
This research study investigates the feasibility of applying supply chain finance (SCF) in both small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Jordanian marketplace. It focuses on patterns of collaboration, factors of adoption, and challenges, tracing the significance of custom-tailored SCFs that specifically involve technological restrictions and governmental complications. Applying a mixed methodology of interviews and AMOS analysis that aims at collecting reliable data from financial and inventory managers in Jordan, this research indicates that the most considerable elements in developing supply chain finance in Jordan are credibility and sustainability. Guaranteeing fair access to funds and contentious innovation has proven to be a complete policy. Moreover, the results conclude that balancing regulatory support is related to simplicity, collaboration, and endorsement of worldwide access to technology. For further research within the same domain, this research recommends developing a customized SCF program and emerging inclusive policies that can pave the way for future research as a comparative analysis of diverse businesses and the study of its permanent effect, devising the integration of technology strategies and mentoring the effectiveness of financial policies.

Unravelling the HRM practices and performance link in Malaysian SMEs: The role of organizational innovation Pages 1111-1120 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Nazlina Zakaria, Francis Chuah Chin Wei, Nor Azimah Chew Abdullah, Rushami Zien Yusoff

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2020.11.028

Keywords: Human Resource Management Practices, Organizational Innovation, Organizational Performance, Small and Medium Enterprises

Abstract:
Many studies have focused on direct link between HRM practices and organizational performance. There is a strong relationship between these two variables that driven further research to identify the mechanism through which such relationship exists. Following resource-based view (RBV), the aim of this research was to investigate the indirect effect of organizational innovation on HRM practices-performance linkage. Data was collected from owners/managers of manufacturing SMEs in West Malaysia. 331 (60.5%) distributed questionnaires were received and analyzed through PLS-SEM. Out of six hypotheses on mediation, only one hypothesis was rejected. The findings strongly supported the RBV theory when organizational innovation significantly mediated the relationship. These results clearly indicate that organizational innovation plays an intermediate role between HRM practices (i.e. communication and information sharing, compensation, selection, performance appraisal, and training and development) and organizational performance of SMEs.

To achieve this, (600) questionnaires were distributed to the sample of Jordanian entrepreneurs in Irbid state and (536) valid questionnaires were recovered. The study indicates that OGD and entrepreneurship had a moderate level. There is a significant statistical effect of OGD on business entrepreneurship (α ≤ 0.05) in Jordanian SMEs Irbid state. At the end researchers recommend government and entrepreneurs to adopt OGD as a strategy to maximize benefits gained from open government data strategy, improve the quality of published data, and recommended entrepreneurs to increase the level of relying on OGD to get information about materials, markets, competitors, legislations and so on to get benefits for their companies.

The results indicate that enterprise size plays a significant role on regulating the impact of business characteristics of enterprises on management accounting applica-tion. For smaller enterprises, management accounting is less used and vice versa. Next, the younger the managers are, the higher the impact of their awareness on management accounting application, which means management accounting will be used more if managers are younger.

Authors: Poh Ling Chong, Tze San Ong, Amalina Abdullah, Wei Chong Choo

DOI: msl_2019_138.pdf

Keywords: Internationalisation, Knowledge, Trust, Commitment, Opportunity development, Balanced scorecard, Small and Medium Enterprises, Malaysia

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to identify the relationship between the determinants of internationalisation and innovation on balanced scorecard (BSC) among Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Internationalisation covers the dimensions of knowledge, trust, commitment and opportunity development, which can benefit the firm performance in Malaysia by increasing the involvement of SMEs in international business activities. A sample of 202 firms was considered for this study and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used. The dimensions of knowledge, trust, commitment and opportunity development were observed to examine the proposed hypotheses. The results indicate that internationalisation as a whole; such as knowledge, trust, commitment and opportunity development played an important role in innovation and balanced scorecard among Ma-laysian SMEs. However, this also can solve the existing myth of a role in the internationalisation on innovation towards a balanced scorecard of SMEs in Malaysia because family businesses are a critical pillar of many Malaysian enterprises. Therefore, this research conveys an understanding to the owners and managers to quickly achieve innovation and balanced scorecard results. Finally, this study brings some conclusions to the policy makers and regulators as well.

An empirical study on factors affecting e-commerce adoption among SMEs in west Malaysia Pages 381-392 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Seng Chee Lim, Seng Poh Lim, Numtip Trakulmaykee

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2018.4.008

Keywords: Adoption, e-Commerce, Small and Medium Enterprises, Developing Countries

Abstract:
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a major role in most developing countries because they are able to improve and develop the economy. e-Commerce is also an important topic in vari-ous research fields as it brings about benefits to these countries. However, the adoption of e-Commerce by SMEs in developing countries is low due to several factors. Therefore, a parsimony framework has been proposed to investigate the factors which influence the adoption of e-Commerce among SMEs in West Malaysia. Three factors are considered in this research, namely Perceived Barriers, Organization Readiness, and Competitor Pressures. Questionnaires were used for data collection while SmartPLS was used to analyze the data. The results showed that Perceived Barriers contain negative significant influence on the adoption of e-Commerce among medium-sized SMEs, but not for small-sized SMEs. Organization Readiness shows a huge difference between small and medium-sized SMEs. Competitor Pressures are important for both small and medium-sized SMEs. In conclusion, the results obtained will assist and enable stakeholders to restructure e-Commerce applications which fulfill the needs of their organization and therefore, increase the effectiveness of the organization.
