The digital transformation paradox: Unravelling the interplay of technology acceptance, employee well-being, and organizational performance in the era of artificial intelligence Pages 219-240 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Wahidur Rahman

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2026.7.001

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: AI paradox, dual-pathway model, Technology acceptance, Psychological empowerment, Ethical leadership, Organizational performance

Abstract:
Despite 72 percent of organizations adopting artificial intelligence, nearly half of implementations fail due to employee resistance, a paradox that challenges technology acceptance models. Prior research has examined either cognitive acceptance or motivational responses in isolation, leaving the interplay between these pathways and their ethical contingencies unresolved. This research addresses this critical gap through a sequential explanatory mixed-method design combining a quantitative survey of 1,785 employees in AI-adopting organizations with in-depth qualitative interviews with 19 participants, analysed using SmartPLS 4 for structural equation modelling and NVivo 14 for thematic analysis. The findings reveal three key insights. First, psychological empowerment mediates the relationship between technology characteristics and job satisfaction more strongly than technology acceptance, a counterintuitive finding that challenges the technology acceptance model's 30-year dominance. Second, job satisfaction emerges as the strongest predictor of organizational performance. Third, ethical leadership moderates both pathways, such that high ethical leadership amplifies empowerment effects by 34 percent. This research advances a novel Ethical Dual-Pathway Technology Acceptance Model (EDP-TAM), offering actionable guidance for organizations to implement AI that simultaneously optimises performance and safeguards employee well-being.

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the strategic leadership model, business model innovation, and product innovation to improve performance of State-Owned Business Enterprise. This study employed a quantitative research method and reported the results of a survey using a questionnaire with a population of 28 SOEs in Indonesia engaged in the food and fertilizer industry. Analysis was carried out using SmartPLS software, which consists of descriptive statistics, measurement model evaluation, structural model evaluation, and hypothesis testing. Results of this study indicate that influence of strategic leadership is significant on business model innovation. The influence of business model innovation is significant on product innovation and on company performance. However, influences of strategic leadership on company performance and product innovation are not significant, and influence of product innovation on company performance is also not significant. Strategic leadership has a significant impact on the decision-making process, thus it can facilitate organizations to implement effective strategies designed to achieve optimal performance. Companies that implement strategic leadership have potential to improve performance through the implementation of good planning, motivating, directing, developing employee capabilities in product innovation and business model innovation, as well as communicating company's long-term vision or goals.

Authors: Abdu Kamil Abdu, Yesuf Muhe Degu

doi 10.5267/j.uscm.2026.5.001

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Organizational performance, Green supply chain management, Green operational capability, Perceived Governmental Environmental, Signaling Intensity, Manufacturing firms

Abstract:
Green supply chain management has emerged as a critical strategic approach for improving environmental sustainability and organizational performance in manufacturing firms. However, existing literature remains limited and missed the mechanisms and contextual conditions that shape these relationships. This study examines the relationship between green supply chain management and organizational performance through green operational capability as mediating mechanism, while considering perceived governmental environmental signaling intensity as moderated mediator. The study employed a quantitative research approach with explanatory research design. The data were collected from 327 respondents who are working in manufacturing factories. Data were analyzed using Smart PLS to test both the measurement and structural models. The findings show that green supply chain management has significant effect on organizational performance and green operational capability. Green operational capability also significantly enhances organizational performance and mediated the relationship between green supply chain management and organizational performance. Furthermore, perceived governmental environmental signaling intensity significantly strengthen the relationship between green supply chain management and green operational capability then influence the organizational performance which confirm moderated mediation effect. This study suggests that manufacturing firms institutionalize green supply chain management as a strategic capability. Policymakers should strengthen clear and consistent environmental signaling to enhance firm responsiveness. Managers should develop green operational capabilities to effectively translate sustainability practices into improved organizational performance and long-term competitive advantage.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 phenomenon led to an increase in the digitalization of the tourism sector, reducing the demand for services and affecting business performance. There is no doubt that leadership plays a fundamental role in the management of organizations. Therefore, it is necessary to delve deeper into the study of the collaborative style to build social capital and measure the impact it can generate on the performance of tourism companies. The influence of collaborative leadership, in its dimensions of resources and work environment, as well as the mobilization of interest groups, on financial and non-financial performance was analyzed, in addition to the mediation of social capital in this relationship. It was carried out under a quantitative approach, not experimenting in the design, taking the data only once, the sample was made up of 782 representatives of Peruvian tourism companies, using self-administered questionnaires and SEM for the analysis. The results indicate that resources and the work environment positively impact financial performance, but not social capital. Furthermore, stakeholder management influences both non-financial performance and social capital. Likewise, it is confirmed that social capital positively affects both dimensions of organizational performance. A partial mediation of social capital was found, as stakeholder management was associated with non-financial performance, with no mediation in the relationship between resources and work environment on financial performance. These findings highlight the need to strengthen collaborative leadership to improve the performance levels of companies that provide tourism services.
