A dual-layer BOM change control model for efficiency improvement in ETO manufacturing Pages 641-656 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Chunhua Wan, Yufei Zeng, Ji Ma, Tao Wang, Kaiyang Zhong

DOI: 10.5267/j.ijiec.2025.4.007

Keywords: ETO (Engineer-to-Order), BOM (Bill of Materials), Change control, Dual-layer traceability, Supply chain collaboration

Abstract:
To address the frequent changes, dynamic evolution, and complex collaboration of BOM (Bill of Materials) under ETO (Engineer-to-Order) mode, this paper proposes a dual-layer BOM-based change control model. First, to enable model definition and change expression throughout the product lifecycle, a version control-based BOM model is defined by introducing material revision, material relationship links, and a multi-view mechanism, while also constructing a general BOM structure system. Then, to ensure traceability of product structural changes and cross-view consistency in the ETO mode, we design a dual-layer change traceability model. This model features vertical version chains and horizontal view collaboration traceability as its core components. Finally, an ETO-oriented BOM change operation model is constructed to standardize both in-view change operations and cross-view cooperative operations. This standardization enhances change control capability and lifecycle traceability efficiency of product structures in ETO manufacturing environments. The application of this model in a large equipment manufacturing enterprise shows that it significantly improves the change response efficiency and provides strong support for the digital transformation and supply chain collaboration of ETO enterprises.

Keywords: Relational View, Supply Chain Collaboration, Competitiveness, Food Product, Rice

Abstract:
Food supply chain collaboration (FSCC) is a prevalent business strategy in developed countries. Despite the widespread adoption, there is still limited literature on FSCC in developing countries, including Indonesia. Therefore, the study aimed to analyze the factors of information sharing, relationship quality, and corporate shared value on supply chain collaboration and their effect on improving the competitiveness of rice main food products in Indonesia. The conceptual framework was developed from the Relational View theory as the basis for supply chain collaboration, which could prove beneficial in increasing the competitiveness of food products. The data were collected from three rice supply chain actors, namely farmers, rice milling units, and retailers, which were analyzed using partial least squares Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed that information sharing was the variable with the greatest effect on supply chain collaboration, followed by corporate shared value and relationship quality. Information sharing carried out by supply chain actors was due to dependence, trust, and commitment to relationships. Collaboration and information sharing among actors showed the potential to positively improve the competitiveness of rice main food products. These results provided valuable insights for food supply chain actors, emphasizing the importance of collaboration by considering economic, social, and environmental aspects.

Abstract:
MSMEs in the ceramics industry are still experiencing a difficult period even though they have entered the post-pandemic period. Will competitive advantage be created from supply chain collaboration in terms of obtaining resource information which will ultimately create innovation and increase market demand? This research involved 200 ceramic MSMEs in Bali with the condition that the perpetrators had been running their business for more than one year, analyzed with SEM-PLS with the SmartPls processing tool. The results show that the relationship between market demands has a positive effect on competitive advantage and will give a boost to the performance of ceramics SMEs. While the collaborative relationship of innovation value does not have a positive effect on performance and competitive advantage because so far ceramic SMEs, especially photocatalysts, are still relatively new and are still running their business in one small group and no organization has yet been formed to support the acquisition of information related to the innovations to be carried out. This research also shows that the mediation of competitive advantage is the perfect mediation in creating market demand in improving the performance of MSMEs.

Abstract:
Companies seek to adopt competitive strategies that achieve sustainability standards, not only in achieving economic success but also in serving society and preserving the environment at the same time. Pharmaceutical companies and their supply chains are facing increasing pressure to preserve the environment because of the problems caused by medical waste, and it is necessary to show their role through their strategies in preserving the environment and serving society as well. This study aims to investigate the relationship between sustainable supply chain strategies and supply chain collaboration and its effect on competitive priorities. The study investigates whether Jordanian Pharmaceutical companies incorporate the sustainability strategy into supply chain strategy, and whether that may impact its competitive priorities. The study population consists of (23) Jordanian Pharmaceutical companies. A structured questionnaire is designed and distributed among top managers in the surveyed companies. A Structural Equation Modeling technique is used to analysis the data and provide the results. Analysis proves the relationship between sustainable supply chain strategies and supply chain collaboration, where companies are interested in attaining some achievements in the area of social and environmental to gain some collaborative strategies with their partners in the supply chain. The study suggests that organizations may adopt the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) framework to evaluate their performance in a broader perspective and extend the collaboration with suppliers and customers through information sharing along the supply chain partners.
