Fueling exploitative and exploratory innovation with paternalistic leadership – do intrinsic motivation and environmental dynamism moderate the relationship? Pages 75-86 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Avedha De Costa, Vathsala Wickramasinghe

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2025.7.001

Keywords: Paternalism, Paternalistic leadership, Innovation, Exploitative innovation, Exploratory innovation, Intrinsic motivation, Environmental dynamism

Abstract:
The objectives of the study were to investigate 1) whether paternalistic leadership affects exploitative and exploratory innovation, and 2) whether intrinsic motivation and environmental dynamism moderate the direct effects of paternalistic leadership on exploitative and exploratory innovation. The study was conducted in Sri Lanka by taking a sample of respondents from the information technology sector. The results indicate a notable distinction between the factors driving exploitative and exploratory innovation. Both types of innovations are significantly affected by paternalistic leadership. However, it has a positive influence on exploitation while it has a negative influence on exploration. Intrinsic motivation significantly predicts only the exploratory innovation while environmental dynamism significantly predicts only the exploitative innovation. This divergence can be explained by the inherent differences in the nature of these two types of innovation. Overall, this research advances theoretical understanding and provides practical guidance.

Keywords: Emotional Intelligence, Entrepreneurship, Fostering Creativity, Innovation, Intrinsic Motivation, Jordanian Business, Administration

Abstract:
The study focuses on the intricate nature of emotional intelligence (EMI), Fostering creativity (FC), intrinsic motivation (IM), innovation (IN) and entrepreneurship (E) under the context of corporate management in a country. Based on a sample of 359 actively engaged respondents and using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling, the study reveals significant positive associations: emotional intelligence includes entrepreneurship, Fostering creativity contains entrepreneurship, innovation, emotional intelligence appears intrinsic motivation, in Fostering creativity appear intrinsic motivation, emotional intelligence includes innovation, in Fostering creativity is innovation, intrinsic motivation includes entrepreneurship, in innovation is entrepreneurship. The results demonstrate a chain mediation: emotional intelligence influences entrepreneurship, intrinsic motivation is involved, and innovation serves as the intermediary. In the same way, it is fertile in creativity to begin entrepreneurship, whereas intrinsic motivation and innovation are mediating factors considering this fact. Accordingly, these findings have a huge impact on the development of effective public health policies and the nature of ecosystems research in future. For organizations in Jordan, a result based on these results will help in the development of a constructive atmosphere which will be inclined towards entrepreneurs by working on emotional intelligence, creativity, intrinsic motivation and innovation. The research puts in place a theoretical framework which is complemented by the granular perspective of these psychological and entrepreneurial factors.

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2020.11.010

Keywords: Organizational commitment, Intrinsic motivation, Extrinsic motivation, Employee voice, Organizational identification, Perceived organizational commitment

Abstract:
Due mainly to the importance of organizational commitment for both employees and employers, it has been the subject attracting researchers over the last few decades. Therefore, the paper aims to build a model of antecedents strengthening organizational commitment. First, the paper reviews six main concepts including organizational commitment, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, employee voice, organizational identification and perceived organizational support. Next, Five-point Likert scale is used to measure those factors with two hundred and forty-nine fulltime Vietnamese employees who are working at 34 Vietnamese organizations from a variety of sectors such as tax, banking, health service, airlines, education and business. Finally, quantitative research is obtained by using EFA, CFA analysis and structural equation modeling. The findings show that three prominent factors positively affecting organizational commitment are intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and organizational identification.

Towards recreational travel modelling in non-western countries: An empirical study using a structural equation modeling approach Pages 1831-1842 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Nidal Alzboun, Nour Al Okaily, Hamzah Khawaldah, Ayman Harb, Muhammad Alshurideh

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2023.6.008

Keywords: Recreational travel, Muslim travelers, Modeling, Extrinsic motivation, Intrinsic motivation

Abstract:
Recreational tourism as a niche market has prompted researchers to take a variety of approaches to investigate the elements that influence travelers’ decisions to engage in leisure activities. The reasons why Muslim visitors select leisure-based travel are commonly discussed in the tourism literature, although little research has been done in this area. By analyzing the significance of travel motivation, emotional response, and satisfaction in determining attitudinal loyalty for Muslim leisure travelers, this study aims to bridge this knowledge gap. This study employed Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS version 23 to answer the research questions. According to the findings, emotional experiences and extrinsic motives have a good direct impact on satisfaction and an indirect impact on the inclination to return. Having a deeper understanding of leisure-based travel from the perspective of Muslim tourists will benefit recreation managers.

Effect size analysis indicates that intrinsic motivation had substantial effect on size when compared with other exogenous variables. The predictive relevance of the model was found substantial revealed Q2=40.5% relevance to predict employee retention. The moderating role of the competitive advantage was confirmed and directs that the positive relationship between employee retention and organizational performance will be stronger when competitive advantage is higher. Finally, results showed that intrinsic motivation had the highest importance level when compared with other constructs. Authors: Syed Ibn Ul Hassan, Badariah Haji Din

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2019.2.013

Keywords: Creativity, High Performance work system, Intrinsic motivation

Abstract:
The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship among intrinsic motivation, authentic leadership and high-performance work system (HPWS) on university faculty members with the mediating role of knowledge sharing. A total of 286 full-time faculty members of public universities from 30 universities of Punjab, Pakistan were interviewed using a five-point Likert-scale question-naire, adapted from the literature. The results of PLS-SEM indicate that authentic leadership and HPWS had a significant effect on faculty member’s creativity whereas intrinsic motivation showed an insignificant relationship with creativity. Results further highlight that knowledge sharing mediated the relationship between HPWS and employee’s creativity, however, no mediation effect was found for intrinsic motivation and authentic leadership with employee creativity.
