DOI: 10.5267/j.dsl.2025.3.002

Keywords: Digital Technology Adoption, Organizational Resilience, Exploratory Innovation, Environmental Uncertainty, High-Quality Enterprise Development, Chinese Logistics SMEs

Abstract:
This study explores the high-quality development of Chinese logistics small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by examining the impact of digital technology adoption, organizational resilience, exploratory innovation, and environmental uncertainty. The research investigates how digital transformation enhances operational efficiency, adaptability, and competitiveness while assessing the mediating role of exploratory innovation in linking technology adoption and resilience to enterprise success. Additionally, the study evaluates the moderating effect of environmental uncertainty on these relationships. A survey was conducted among 340 logistics professionals and SMEs operating within China's supply chain sector, focusing on their digital transformation efforts, resilience strategies, and innovation-driven business models. The hypotheses were tested using descriptive analysis in SPSS and structural equation modeling (SEM) in SmartPLS-4. The findings indicate that digital technology adoption and organizational resilience significantly enhance high-quality enterprise development, with exploratory innovation playing a crucial mediating role. Moreover, environmental uncertainty moderates the relationship between digital adoption and innovation, highlighting the need for adaptability in dynamic markets. This study contributes to the existing literature by integrating digital adoption, resilience, and innovation within a unified framework, particularly in the context of Chinese logistics SMEs. The results emphasize the importance of reducing digital adoption barriers, strengthening organizational resilience, and leveraging innovation to enhance long-term sustainability. Policymakers and industry stakeholders are encouraged to implement supportive trade policies, financial incentives, and technological investments to optimize the performance of Chinese logistics SMEs in an increasingly competitive environment.

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2023.12.001

Keywords: Competitive advantage, Environmental uncertainty, Freight Forwarders Incoterm, Strategic alliance

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the impact of environmental uncertainty and Incoterm on strategic alliances and competitive advantage in the Freight Forwarder Industry in Indonesia. The measuring method examines how variables, including environmental uncertainty, Incoterm, and strategic alliances, affect competitive advantage using SmartPLS technology and structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis. The questionnaire was created using a 5-point Likert scale. Through a simple random selection procedure, study participants selected freight forwarder companies. Validity, reliability, and significance tests—often along with hypothesis testing—are all included in the sequential data analysis. The study has identified the following relationships based on an evaluation of the data processing: Strategic alliances are positively impacted by environmental uncertainty, Incoterm is positively affected by environmental uncertainty, Incoterm is positively influenced by competitive advantage, and strategic alliances are positively affected by competitive advantage. The novelty of this study is the influence of environmental uncertainty and Incoterm on Strategic alliance and competitive advantage in the Freight Forwarder Industry in Indonesia. The theoretical implication supports previous theories on environmental uncertainty and Incoterm to increase competitive advantage through strategic alliances. The practical implication is for the management of a Freight forwarding company to scan the uncertainty of the logistics environment and implement the selection of the right Incoterm to encourage strategic alliances to encourage competitive advantage. This research makes a significant contribution to the advancement of scientific principles, particularly within the field of strategic management. Furthermore, it provides a valuable reference and comparative material for future studies focusing on the impact of environmental uncertainty and Incoterm on strategic alliances and competitive advantage within the freight forwarder industry in Indonesia.

Supply chain integration and green innovation, the role of environmental uncertainty: Evidence from Jordan Pages 657-666 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Ishaq M. AL Shaar, Shadi Khattab, Raed Alkaied, Lina Al-Abbadi

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2022.5.009

Keywords: Supply chain integration, Customer integration, Supplier integration, Environmental uncertainty, Green product innovation (GPDI), Green process innovation (GPRI)

Abstract:
Prior research in several industries, particularly manufacturing industries, has confirmed the use of supply chain integration (SCI) to achieve green innovation (GI). Despite this, there has been very little research into the effects of SCI on the GI of manufacturing businesses. As a result, the current study was carried out to close this gap in the literature. Data from 231 manufacturing businesses in Jordan was used to validate a framework of several hypotheses about the relationships involving SCI and GI. SCI (customer integration (CI) and supplier integration (SI) have beneficial benefits on the green product and process innovation (GPDI & GPRI), according to the results of structural equation modeling. SI's effects on green products and process innovation are moderated by environmental unpredictability. The effects of CI on green product innovation are being moderated by environmental unpredictability. Environmental uncertainty, on the other hand, does not moderate the impacts of CI on green process innovation. This research adds to our knowledge of the SCI-GI link.

Do intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty affect firm performance? A mediating role of value chain Pages 1055-1064 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Bob Foster, Jumadil Saputra, Muhamad Deni Johansyah, Zikri Muhammad

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2022.2.006

Keywords: Intellectual capital, Environmental uncertainty, Value chain, Firm performance

Abstract:
A value chain plays a crucial role in increasing production efficiency due to business uncertainty and high competition between business entities. Of these, the business must carry out the activities effectively and efficiently to achieve maximum profit. However, the study that focuses on the moderating role of the value chain in its relationship to firm performance is still limited. Thus, the present study aims to examine the effect of intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty toward firm performance and the mediating role of the value chain in the relationship between intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty to firm performance. This study was designed using a quantitative approach through an online survey. A total of 207 staff from non-financial state-owned enterprises consists of 10 clusters and 76 companies. The data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Square method (SEM-PLS) and assisted by statistical software, namely SmartPLS 3.3.3. The result indicated that intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty have a significant effect on firm performance. Also, this study found that a value chain moderates the relationship of intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty toward firm performance. In conclusion, this study has successfully examined the effect of intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty on firm performance—also, the role of a value chain in the relationship of studied variables. In addition, the findings of this study showed that a value chain is an important tool for companies to improve their business performance.

Authors: Librita Arifiani, Harjanto Prabowo, Asnan Furinto, Wibowo Kosasih

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2021.6.013

Keywords: Environmental uncertainty, Integrative capability, Business model transformation, Firm performance

Abstract:
This study examines the impact of environmental uncertainty and integrative strategy on growth of firm performance through the mediating role of the Business Model Transformation (BMT) strategy of information communication technology (ICT) in Indonesia. The research data was collected from the executive management of ICT through survey research with 30 questionnaire surveys and exploratory study with seven company leaders through in-depth interviews. This study analyzes the suitability of the overall model through causal relationships using Partial Least Square-Path Modeling (PLS-PM). The results show that the BMT predominantly influences the growth of ICT companies. The BMT is predominantly built by the environmental uncertainty (ET) strategy rather than by integrative capability. Thus, companies need to improve their ability and creativity to anticipate and adapt to any uncertainty that unexpectedly results in dynamic competition.
