Abstract:
The primary objective of this research is to examine the relationship between Good Corporate Governance (GCG), value chain, and bank asset growth in Indonesian State-Owned banks. Additionally, this study aims to determine whether value chain mediates the relationship between GCG and bank asset growth. This research employs a quantitative method. Data is collected using a questionnaire with a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 7. The respondents in this study are employees and managers working in state-owned banks in Indonesia. The total sample size used in this research is 239 samples. Data analysis is conducted using SmartPLS 4 software. The results of this study demonstrate that GCG has a significant positive relationship with the value chain of the bank. However, the direct relationship between GCG and bank asset growth is not statistically significant. The results of the mediation analysis show that value chain mediates the relationship between GCG and bank asset growth, emphasizing the critical role of value chain in optimizing the impact of GCG on bank asset growth.

Do intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty affect firm performance? A mediating role of value chain Pages 1055-1064 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Bob Foster, Jumadil Saputra, Muhamad Deni Johansyah, Zikri Muhammad

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2022.2.006

Keywords: Intellectual capital, Environmental uncertainty, Value chain, Firm performance

Abstract:
A value chain plays a crucial role in increasing production efficiency due to business uncertainty and high competition between business entities. Of these, the business must carry out the activities effectively and efficiently to achieve maximum profit. However, the study that focuses on the moderating role of the value chain in its relationship to firm performance is still limited. Thus, the present study aims to examine the effect of intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty toward firm performance and the mediating role of the value chain in the relationship between intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty to firm performance. This study was designed using a quantitative approach through an online survey. A total of 207 staff from non-financial state-owned enterprises consists of 10 clusters and 76 companies. The data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Square method (SEM-PLS) and assisted by statistical software, namely SmartPLS 3.3.3. The result indicated that intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty have a significant effect on firm performance. Also, this study found that a value chain moderates the relationship of intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty toward firm performance. In conclusion, this study has successfully examined the effect of intellectual capital and environmental uncertainty on firm performance—also, the role of a value chain in the relationship of studied variables. In addition, the findings of this study showed that a value chain is an important tool for companies to improve their business performance.

Authors: Qui Hoang Nguyen, Budi Guntoro, Suci Paramitasari Syahlani, Nguyen Thuy Linh

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2020.8.004

Keywords: Value chain, Value added, Pig industry, Tra Vinh province

Abstract:
Livestock sector including pig is developing in Vietnam, which plays a crucial role in the economic structure of Vietnam and meets the demand of Vietnamese. The study was involved 120 pig farmers, 3 retailers, 3 wholesalers, 12 middlemen, 3 slaughterhouses, 12 sellers, 3 processors, and 12 consumers in three districts who were chosen as respondents in the value chain. The study was implemented to determine the value chain and benefit distribution of pig industry in Tra Vinh province. Snowball sampling and purposive method were used in this study. The results show that there were three channels of pig in Tra Vinh province during the context of African Swine Fever (ASF). There were three value chains which were found out in the value chain of pig industry. Middlemen played an important role in the value chain. Both of three passed through slaughterhouse as their slaughtering service. The shortest value chain is from farmer – middlemen-cum-seller – consumer. Farmers contributed a high value-added share in the value chain. It could be concluded that in Tra Vinh province, the longer value chain, the higher price the consumer takes. We suggested that the improvement of the number of pig and stabilization of the value chain of pig industry are the current mission and the strategy to be implemented.

Abstract:
This study explains the role of institutional performance and new product development (NPD) value chain strategies to enhance entrepreneurial competitive advantage. The analysis was based on survey data on 125 entrepreneurial households, taken using the multi-stage random sampling technique in Central Java and Yogyakarta. The path analysis model is used to explain the role and strategy used quantitatively. It was supplemented by a value chain analysis (VCA) model based on a supply chain management (MSC) approach in a more classical, linear, complex, and descriptive sub-sector analysis. The results show that the NPD factors significantly contribute to increasing the entrepreneurial competitive advantage. Furthermore, the NPD value chain strategy, apart from benefiting managers, provides employment opportunities and new markets to the community holistically. Its chain strategy changes the role and atmosphere of people's lives more humane.

DOI: 10.5267/j.ac.2020.2.005

Keywords: Fisheries, Value chain, Data mining, Kei islands

Abstract:
As in agriculture, fisheries sector faces long list of uncertainty and unsustainability in supply of the products. This is due to the great possibility of natural disaster and moral hazard by the actors in fisheries which lead to the instability of value chain on fisheries commodity from downstream to upstream. Thus, a study must be done in order to explore and minimize the disturbance of the stream of value chain in fisheries. This study aims to investigate the attributes playing big role on affecting value chain cooperation among actors in fisheries commodity in Kei Islands. Data mining is used on the study to determine factors playing major roles in smoothing cooperation in value chain of fisheries commodity, with 220 datasets obtained from actors in fisheries micro-enterprises in Kei Islands taken from August to November, 2019. The result shows that, on average, weights of four data mining techniques; namely support vector machine, fast large margin, logistic regression, naïve bayes and generalized linear model all appear to put management as the leading factor that contributes the most for the cooperation of value chain of fisheries commodity in Kei Islands. This finding implicates that management on all micro-enterprises of fisheries business in Kei Islands has to be the main focus, which is mainly related to basic knowledge on conducting cooperation and maintaining relationship among all actors in fisheries sector, therefore, NGO and local government need to step in and play role on educating all actors for better good governance of the business to obtain the great sustainability in the value chain of fisheries commodity in the region.
