Keywords: Job satisfaction, Work stress, Seafarer performance, Shipping safety

Abstract:
The main problem in this research, among others, was the lack of attention given by the company management to the seafarers' demands concerning health, social aspects, work stress, work environment, work facilities, and working hours that increased seafarers' pressure. The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of job satisfaction and work stress on shipping safety with seafarer performance as the intervening variable. The research was carried out in Balai Pendidikan dan Pelatihan Ilmu Pelayaran (Center for Maritime Education and Training) Tangerang with the samples of 93 seafarers working in several shipping companies. Data was processed using Path analysis. The result of this research showed that job satisfaction and work stress directly influenced seafarer performance. Meanwhile, job satisfaction and work stress had an indirect influence on shipping safety through seafarer performance, and seafarer performance had a direct influence on shipping safety. The result of Path analysis showed that work stress rather than job satisfaction had a bigger influence on seafarer performance, and seafarer performance had the biggest direct influence on shipping safety.

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2019.10.003

Keywords: Employee Engagement, Work-Life balance, Work stress, Mediators, FMCG firms, Viet Nam

Abstract:
Employee engagement is one of the most important issues in human resource management in order to ameliorate the turnover intention in organizations. Employers often face different challenges of finding ways to increase the interaction with their employees in order to have good labor force. This paper investigates the effects of different factors on employment engagement in Vietnam industries. The results indicate that work-life balance and work stress positively impact on employee engagement. However, our results do not confirm that working condition could positively impact on employee engagement nor did we find any evidence to believe that relationship with supervisor could positively impact on employee engagement. In terms of mediation effect, work-life balance, in this survey, mediates the relationship between working condition and employee engagement. Also, work-life balance mediates the relationship between the relationship with supervisor and employee engagement. Moreover, work stress mediates the relationship between working condition and employee engagement. Finally, work stress mediates the relationship between relationship with supervisor and employee engagement.

The quality of audit recommendation: The effect of role conflict, role ambiguity and work stress Pages 315-322 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Meinarni Asnawi

DOI: 10.5267/j.ac.2021.11.002

Keywords: Role conflict, Role Ambiguity, Work stress, Quality of audit recommendations

Abstract:
This research examines the effects of role conflict and role ambiguity on internal auditor's work stress and the quality of audit recommendations. These relationships were tested based on the survey taken from 96 internal auditors who served at several state universities in Indonesia. The hypothesis testing technique used SmartPLS analysis. The results showed that role conflict has a positive effect on the quality of audit recommendations while role ambiguity has a negative effect. Role conflict and role ambiguity have a positive and significant effect on work stress. Other test results show that internal auditor work stress does not show an effect on the quality of audit recommendations. The practical implication of this research is that to reduce ambiguity in carrying out audit tasks and to improve the quality of audit recommendations, it is necessary to consider an adequate work environment, especially the availability and adequacy of information needed by internal auditors in completing monitoring tasks. The role of conflict due to the presence of more than one task can cause work stress, although it does not interfere with the quality of audit recommendations. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the allocation of work time that is not carried out at the same time so that the workload causes work stress.
