Financial derivatives and the commercial banks performance in UAE Pages 21-30 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Olumide Owoeye, Mohamud Ambashe, Pradeep Singhavara

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2023.8.004 Crossmark

Keywords: Financial performance, Bank, Financial derivatives, United Arab Emirates

Abstract:
The introduction of derivatives at the financial market of the United Arab Emirate (UAE) is to enhance liquidity and broadens the range of securities. This is because it brings exciting opportunities for investors to diversify their investment in an efficient and cost-effective way. Evidence from previous studies has shown that financial market derivatives help to reduce risk. Even though trading losses produced by unsuitable derivative activity are frequently big enough to create financial problems and even bankruptcy, there is minimal research on how bank profitability and performance are affected. The study examines the determinants of financial derivatives on the performance of commercial banks in UAE and the financial risk exposure between derivatives financial assets and derivatives financial liabilities. The research employs Pecking order theory, panel ARDL and data from 30 commercial banks’ financial statements in 2020 in UAE. The study found that an increase in the level of return on assets will create an increase in traded financial derivatives that will enhance bank performance by a high level of percentage. Stability of the banking sector in UAE is recommended to enhance better performances of commercial banks on financial derivatives in UAE.

Keywords: Smart government, e-government, Post-adoption, Unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, Expectation confirmation model, United Arab Emirates

Abstract:
This study aimed to develop and empirically validate an integrated model for continuous smart government service usage. This model integrates constructs from the unified theory of acceptance and use of the technology framework with the expectation-confirmation model, along with an additional construct: trust. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze data collected via online questionnaires from 369 people who utilized smart government services in the United Arab Emirates. Next, an artificial neural networks model was used to rank the relative influence of the significant predictors identified through SEM analysis. The findings reveal that, among the significant predictors affecting the continuous use of smart government services, facilitating conditions, satisfaction, and perceived usefulness had the most substantial impact. Furthermore, this study highlights the direct influence of perceived usefulness, confirmation, facilitating conditions, effort expectancy, social influence, and public trust on citizen satisfaction.

Keywords: Internal supply Chain, Recruitment process, Employee Commitment, United Arab Emirates

Abstract:
This paper investigates the impact of employee commitment as well as the recruitment process on the performance of internal supply chain. Additionally, the current study is intended to investigate the mediating role of the recruitment process on the relationship between employee commitment and firm supply chain performance. The main objective behind any recruitment process is to recruit committed employees to help a firm enhance the performance of the organizations. Therefore, the current study is carried out to fill a gap by exploring the relationship between recruitment processes, employee commitment, and firm supply chain performance. To achieve the research objective, the study has analyzed the data gathered from 284 mangers of manufacturing organizations of United Arab Emirates. 284 questionnaires out of 550 are found useful, so the response rate is 52 percent. The structural equation modelling using AMOS is used to analyze the data. The results of the study show an agreement with the results of the hypotheses. The direct relationship between commitment types and firms’ internal supply chain performance, and between recruitment process and firms’ internal supply chain performance are found positive and significant. The results of the study will be helpful for HR practitioners, operation managers, researchers, and policy makers in understanding the impact of employee commitments and recruitment process on internal supply chains’ performance of manufacturing firms.

Factors affecting social networks acceptance: An extension to the technology acceptance model using PLS-SEM and Machine Learning Approach Pages 489-494 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Muhammad Turki Alshurideh, Barween Al Kurdi

doi 10.5267/j.ijdns.2022.8.010 Crossmark

Keywords: Perceived playfulness, Perceived ease of use, Perceived usefulness, Intention to use social networks, United Arab Emirates, Technology acceptance model

Abstract:
Once the university started using social media more, the researchers started focusing more on how social media applications were being adopted and what motivated it without being limited to classrooms only. There is a need to conduct further research about how the utilization of social media to teach in university affects education. Considering this, delving deeper into the educational outcomes and a research model related to the experiences and results of social media use is the aim of this research. Apart from that, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) research that deals with the behavior intention of using social networking media, perceived playfulness, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness has been used for testing what affects the utilization of social media for online-teaching in higher education of United Arab Emirates. There was an assessment of 580 quantitative responses given by university students whose classroom sessions involved using social media. In order to predict the behavioral intention of a pupil for using social networking media for e-learning in the higher education institutions, it is possible to take some help from the factors such as perceived playful-ness, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, as per the partial least squares (PLS) and machine learning evaluation. The suggested model helps teachers to get to know more about how classroom sessions can become more productive through social media usage.

doi 10.5267/j.ijdns.2022.6.001 Crossmark

Keywords: Positive Word of Mouth, Trust Worthiness, Brand Image, Product Quality, United Arab Emirates

Abstract:
Word of Mouth also works as a primary determinant of people's positive attitude towards online shopping and retailers. Notably, people are more likely to spend online shopping if they trust online retailers. This study also focuses on the online retail industry in the United Arab Emirates. The Item Response Theory primarily supports the conceptual model of the current research. We employed a cross-sectional design and selected a sample of n= 304 online consumers. Results revealed that the relationships between Positive Word of Mouth, Brand Image, and Causal Attributions are strongly validated (p> 0.000). Besides, the relationships between. Product Quality, Brand Image, and Causal Attributions are also affirmed with the path value at 1.014 and significance value at p> 0.000. Moreover, we also found a potentially significant relationship between Positive Word of Mouth and Product Quality p> 0.000). We also affirmed that the relationship between Brand Image and Causal Attribution is also validated with the significance values at p> 0.000. Lastly, the proposed relationships between we proposed a significant relationship are also validated (p> 0.000). Thus, we conclude that, today, when competition is increasing day by day, it is crucial to examine the consumer psychology that may highlight our several factors as done by the Item Response Theory. Further, we have discussed the study limitations and contributions accordingly.

Keywords: Technology Acceptance Model, Microsoft Teams, Structural Equation Modelling, United Arab Emirates, Behavioral Intention

Abstract:
The brisk spread of Covid-19 led educational policymakers and organizations to opt for better alternatives to resume the students' educational journey. In this context, Microsoft Teams remained one of the most devoted and credible online platforms that greatly facilitated the educational process across the globe. Current research also analyzed Microsoft Teams acceptance using the self-proposed conceptual model supported by the Technology Acceptance Model by Davis. We employed the survey method and examined the gathered using the applied Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Results indicated that there is a significant impact of Covid-19 on the Perceived Ease of Use (p> 0.000) and Perceived Usefulness (p> 0.000). Besides, the relationship between Perceived Ease of Use and Perceived Usefulness also remained significant (p> 0.000). Moreover, the proposed relationship between Attitude, Perceived Ease of Use, and Perceived Usefulness also remained substantial (p> 0.009 and p> 0.000). However, the relationship between Attitude and Behavioral Intention remained insignificant (p> 0.556). Finally, the relationship between Behavioral Intention and Microsoft Teams Acceptance remained significant (p> 0.088). Thus, we concluded that Microsoft Teams is an effective study tool that unites students and instructors in the United Arab Emirates. It governs eLearning experiences and, therefore, provides a virtual environment to students and directly influences our perceptions and behavior.
