Keywords: Human Capital, Social Capital, Digital Technology, Export Performance

Abstract:
The export development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia is still very low, resulting in their contribution to national exports being very small as well. Government bodies and relevant stakeholders are actively pursuing initiatives to enhance the export performance of SMEs. These efforts include improving the quality of human and social capital and promoting the integration of digital technology into SME operations. This examination evaluates the impact of human capital (HC), social capital (SC), and the utilization of digital technology on the export performance of SMEs. The investigation adopted a survey approach on all export-oriented SMEs listed on the Bank Indonesia website. Data was obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to 614 SMEs. Data analysis was conducted using PLS SEM. The research findings indicate that human capital, social capital, and digital technology have a positive and significant influence on the export performance of SMEs in Indonesia.

Authors: Putu Dyah Permatha Korry, Armanu Armanu, Sudjatno Sudjatno, Risna Wijayanti

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2024.1.006

Keywords: Financial capital, Human capital, Social capital, Entrepreneurial resilience, Local culture value, Sustainable competitive advantage, Small-medium enterprises

Abstract:
Literature indicates it is crucial to understand how SMEs could adapt to changes in their external environment to develop a competitive advantage. However, there is limited discussion on how entrepreneurs’ resilience functions as one of the dynamic capabilities required to maintain their company’s competitive advantage in the long-term. This study aimed to investigate how entrepreneurial resilience affects SMEs ability to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. It also analyzed the moderating role of local cultural values in reinforcing resilience and sustainable competitive advantage. The population consisted of 400 handicraft SME who were thought of as Bali’s sustaining tourism sector. The results demonstrated that financial capital, human capital, and social capital were factors that shaped entrepreneurial resilience, where the ownership of capital and access to capital helped entrepreneurs when encountering changes in the dynamic and challenging industrial environment, where the role of financial capital was one of the sources of resilience that had the most significant influence. Furthermore, entrepreneurial resilience also contributed significantly to the achievement of sustainable competitive advantage. Moreover, the results also indicate that local cultural values strengthen entrepreneurial resilience because entrepreneurs who adjusted to local cultural norms developed in the surrounding community tended to respond positively to their behavior. Positive environmental acceptance could reinforce entrepreneurial resilience, given the psychological support of their behavior.

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2020.4.014

Keywords: Knowledge sharing, Firm performance, Social capital, Vietnam

Abstract:
This article aims to construct and empirically verify a model that demonstrates the association between social capital dimensions, knowledge sharing, and firm performance. For data collection, a questionnaire was delivered to medium and small enterprises across Ho Chi Minh City using convenience sampling. To verify the proposed relationships, the data collected from 543 middle and top managers of medium and small enterprises were then examined using Structural Equation Modelling. Overall, explicit and tacit knowledge sharing are fostered as a result of all social capital dimensions. In a similar vein, both types of knowledge sharing influence firm performance. The study proposes a guide as to how firms should achieve better performance by promoting social capital and knowledge sharing.

Social capital and firm performance: A study on manufacturing and services firms in Vietnam Pages 2571-2582 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Hanh Tien Thi Nguyen, Tri Minh Ha

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2020.3.038

Keywords: Social capital, Knowledge transfer, Innovation, Firm performance, Structural equation modeling, Vietnam

Abstract:
This article investigates the causal connection between social capital (SC), knowledge transfer, innovation and firm performance. Based on existing literature on social capital, we develop a research model showing that three dimensions of social capital, including network ties, trust and shared visions, have positive relationships with company performance via two mediators, namely knowledge transfer and innovation. Using a sample of 153 Vietnamese firms, including one to two respondents from each firm, our study applied structural equation modeling to confirm the hypotheses. The results show that all three dimensions of social capital were positively related to firm performance with knowledge transfer and innovation acting as mediators. Knowledge transfer and the company's innovation were found to have a strong as-sociation with each other. Academically, this paper offers an opportunity to investigate social capital in terms of other factors in one specific industry. Practically, our findings motivate firms to focus on improving knowledge transfer on both quantity and quality prospects to boost firm performance.

Keywords: Social capital, “The Value Explorer” method, Intangible asset, Social network, Trust, Social norms

Abstract:
The article substantiates the essence of the concept of “social capital” as a resource in terms of formed, permanent, established types of highly effective socio-economic interactions. In addition, the main directions of its manifestation and its structural elements are defined. It is stated that for quantitative measurement of social capital at the enterprise level, it is necessary to establish its precise framework, to determine its structure and key features. As an object of accounting, social capital should be regarded as an intangible asset. The expediency of using the Value explorer method for social capital estimation, which requires some necessary steps, has been substantiated as follows: the use of clearly established algorithm of actions in the implementation of rational selection for a new product; the use of internal and external innovations in the process of generating new ideas and production of innovations within the framework of the product realization strategy; identify areas of key competitive advantages related to social capital; determining the role of the sphere of competitive advantages in production and sales of products; gross profit distribution by key competitive advantages; calculation of the potential of the competitive advantages sphere; assessment of the durability and sustainability of the competitive advantages of the enterprise and calculation of the present value of all elements of social capital of the enterprise. Five main levels of social intangibles are identified and grounded. The study allows to form an appropriate matrix to analyze the effectiveness of their use in the enterprise.

Authors: Yousef Ahmed Hussein, Dilber Çağlar

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2019.5.014

Keywords: High involvement work systems, Knowledge based capital, Human capital, Social capital, Organizational capital, Leadership style

Abstract:
This study investigate the effects of high involvement human resources on organizational performance. The study is accomplished through hypothesizing the effect of high involvement work sys-tems on performance as the main relationship. This effect is theorized to be mediated through knowledge-based capital. Additionally, leadership style is considered as the potential moderating force in the theorized model. Data is analyzed from 380 collected questionnaires distributed among hotel employees in Jordan using structural equation modelling techniques. The results show that high involvement work systems had a positive effect on performance, social and human capital. Human and social capital mediating role is also observed. Finally, leadership style is emerged as a moderating variable affecting the relationship between high involvement work systems and performance. The findings of this study show the importance of the role played by human and knowledge-based capital in achieving human resources performance goals.
