The challenge presented by simultaneous buffer and service rate allocation in manufacturing systems represents a difficult non-deterministic polynomial problem. Previous studies solved this problem by iteratively utilizing a generative method and an evaluative method. However, it typically takes a long computation time for the evaluative method to achieve high evaluation accuracy, while the satisfactory solution quality realized by the generative method requires a certain number of iterations. In this study, a data-driven hybrid approach is developed by integrating a tabu search–non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II with a whale optimization algorithm–gradient boosting regression tree to maximize the throughput and minimize the average buffer level of a manufacturing system subject to a total buffer capacity and total service rate. The former algorithm effectively searches for candidate simultaneous allocation solutions by integrating global and local search strategies. The prediction models built by the latter algorithm efficiently evaluate the candidate solutions. Numerical examples demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed approach. The proposed approach improves the solution efficiency of simultaneous allocation, contributing to dynamic production resource reconfiguration of manufacturing systems.

While the number of AIDS-related deaths continues to rise, efforts have been made to transform the disease into a manageable chronic condition. HIV protease inhibitors have become central to combination therapy. As a result, these inhibitors have become a major focus of anti-HIV drug development. This research takes a data-driven approach to drug development through the use of quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis. A dataset of 450 anti-HIV drugs was used to construct and validate models. Using extensive validation methods and various machine learning algorithms, the results clearly showed that the "ET" regression outperformed the other models (“XGB”, “LGBM”, “DT”, “RF”, “GB”, “Bag”, and “HGB”) in terms of goodness of fit, predictivity, generalizability, and model robustness. Promising compounds were subjected to molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation, resulting in drugs with favourable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties that consistently interact with the therapeutic target.

Human migration is based on pull factors that individuals evaluate when it comes to moving to a different territory. Likewise, employee attrition is a phenomenon that represents the tendency to a reduction in employees within an organization. This research paper aims to develop and evaluate machine learning algorithms, namely Decision Tree, Random Forest, and Binary Logistic Regression, to predict employee attrition using the IBM dataset available on Kaggle. The objective is to provide organizations with a proactive approach to employee retention and human resource management by creating accurate predictive models. Employee attrition has significant implications for an organization's reputation, profitability, and overall structure. By accurately predicting employee attrition, organizations can identify the factors contributing to it and implement data-driven human resources management practices. This study contributes to improving decision-making processes, including hiring and firing decisions, and ultimately enhances an organization's capital. The IBM dataset used in this study consists of anonymized employee records and their employment outcomes. It provides a comprehensive HR data representation for analysis and prediction. Three machine learning algorithms, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and Binary Logistic Regression, were utilized in this research. These algorithms were selected for their potential to improve accuracy in predicting employee attrition. The Logistic Regression model yielded the highest accuracy of 87.44% among the tested algorithms. By leveraging this study's findings, organizations can develop predictive models to identify factors contributing to employee attrition. These insights can inform strategic decisions and optimize human resource management practices.

Android malware is widespread and it is considered as one of the most threatening attacks recently. The threat is targeting to damage access data or information or leaking them; in general, malicious software consists of viruses, worms, and other malware. Current malware attempts to prevent being detected by any software or anti-virus. This paper describes recent Android malware detection static and interactive approaches as well as several open-source malware datasets. The paper also examines the most current state-of-the-art Android malware identification techniques including identifying by comparative evaluation the gaps between these techniques. As a result, an API-based dynamic malware detection framework is proposed for Android to provide a dynamic paradigm for malware detection. The proposed framework was closely inspected and checked for reliability where meaningful API packages and methods were discovered.

Condition-based maintenance (CBM) of industrial machines depends on the continuous, real-time monitoring of the machine’s operational condition via smart sensors attached to different components on the machine. The problem of regularly spaced missing data, which can occur due to a variety of hardware or software issues, is one that is often overlooked in the literature surrounding CBM in industrial machines. Such missing data can cause issues in interpreting the true operational state of the machine, which can reduce the effectiveness of CBM processes. In this paper, we examine the capabilities of five data imputation techniques for handling this regular missing data and examine the impact these techniques have on machine learning (ML) classification algorithms for machine fault diagnosis. We examine the following techniques: simple mean imputation, mean imputation with outliers removed, best and worst-case imputation, and previous day imputation. Each of these methods is configured with the specific parameters that they will only consider data from the previous 24 hours, to ensure that the data is recent, and adequately represents the current status of the machine. The efficacy of each method at accurately reconstructing the missing data and the impact they have on ML classification is recorded in the results. The models are evaluated on a real-world dataset and are evaluated on a variety of common performance metrics.

In the contemporary business landscape, effective interpretation of customer sentiment, accurate demand forecasting, and precise price prediction are pivotal in making strategic decisions and efficiently allocating resources. Harnessing the vast array of data available from social media and online platforms, this paper presents an integrative approach employing machine learning, deep learning, and probabilistic models. Our methodology leverages the BERT transformer model for customer sentiment analysis, the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) model for demand forecasting, and the Bayesian Network for price prediction. These state-of-the-art techniques are adept at managing large-scale, high-dimensional data and uncovering hidden patterns, surpassing traditional statistical methods in performance. By bridging these diverse models, we aim to furnish businesses with a comprehensive understanding of their customer base and market dynamics, thus equipping them with insights to make informed decisions, optimize pricing strategies, and manage supply chain uncertainties effectively. The results demonstrate the strengths and areas for improvement of each model, ultimately presenting a robust and holistic approach to tackling the complex challenges of modern supply chain management.

Tourist village program is one development priority program for rural development. Despite numerous opportunities to develop tourist villages such as the availability of natural resources and high demand for tourist villages recently, some challenges are still faced to develop tourist villages, especially in a developing country such as Indonesia. Governance problems, infrastructure, and effective partnership are among other factors that remain challenging in developing tourist villages. This study attempts to identify factors that determine the state of tourist villages in Indonesia and determine the appropriate strategies for better tourist village development. Using the case of tourist villages in Kedung Ombo, Central Java, a water based attractive tourist village, this study uses both machine learning and multicriteria approaches by means of Promethee in order to address the objective of the study. This study shows that government support, application of information technology, infrastructure, local participation, partnership, and attractive variations, are among the determinant factors that affect tourist village development. The study also reveals that the appropriate strategies for tourist village development include, improving infrastructure, institutional strengthening, and capacity building. This study could be used to assist local national as well as sub-national governments to effectively manage tourist villages in Indonesia.

Vulnerability is one of the prominent features of rural areas due to their distinctive characteristics, such as remoteness, geographical conditions, and socio-economic dependence on primary sectors. Addressing the vulnerability of rural areas in terms of the rural development paradigm is both urgent and relevant. This study aims to address this issue using the current state-of-the-art machine learning method, using the socio-ecological framework and integrated vulnerability index of villages in Lampung Province in Indonesia. The study attempts to predict and classify villages' vulnerability to be applied for better planning and rural development. Based on random forest classification and decision tree algorithm, the results show that the village governance system represented by rural water management and the level of education of village leaders are suitable prediction variables related to the low vulnerability index. This study can draw lessons learned to improve rural development in developing countries.

Dementia is a neuropsychiatric brain disorder that usually occurs when one or more brain cells stop working partially or at all. Diagnosis of this disorder in the early phases of the disease is a vital task to rescue patients’ lives from bad consequences and provide them with better healthcare. Machine learning methods have been proven to be accurate in predicting dementia in the early phases of the disease. The prediction of dementia depends heavily on the type of collected data which usually are gathered from Normalized Whole Brain Volume (nWBV) and Atlas Scaling Factor (ASF) which are normally measured and corrected from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRIs). Other biological features such as age and gender can also help in the diagnosis of dementia. Although many studies use machine learning for predicting dementia, we could not reach a conclusion on the stability of these methods for which one is more accurate under different experimental conditions. Therefore, this paper investigates the conclusion stability regarding the performance of machine learning algorithms for dementia prediction. To accomplish this, a large number of experiments were run using 7 machine learning algorithms and two feature reduction algorithms namely, Information Gain (IG) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). To examine the stability of these algorithms, thresholds of feature selection were changed for the IG from 20% to 100% and the PCA dimension from 2 to 8. This has resulted in 7×9 + 7×7= 112 experiments. In each experiment, various classification evaluation data were recorded. The obtained results show that among seven algorithms the support vector machine and Naïve Bayes are the most stable algorithms while changing the selection threshold. Also, it was found that using IG would seem more efficient than using PCA for predicting Dementia. These promising results open the door to a new era of early prognosis of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD).

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is an extensively implemented arc welding process through the control of input process parameters and the metal from the filler wire. Despite its popular use in various industries, the complex interrelationship between the actual bead and the varying welding parameters makes it challenging to predict appropriate bead geometries via mathematical modeling in a continually changing welding process. In this study, the Regression Learner App was used to compare the performance of supervised Machine Learning (ML) predictive models comprising the Linear Regression (LR), Regression Tree (RT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Ensembles of Tree (ET), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) using GMAW dataset. The dataset was scaled and normalized at a range of -1 to +1 to facilitate the visualization of the variation effect. The wire feed speed, voltage, weld velocity, unmelted wire length, and melted wire volume were considered as the input parameters to predict the bead geometry. In addition, the five-fold cross-validation was employed to avoid overfitting and poor generalization. Finally, statistical indicators, namely the Coefficient of Determination (R²), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and Mean Absolute Error (MAE), were performed on all developed models to evaluate their performance. Thus, the fine tree and ANN models achieved the highest prediction accuracies of 88–91%, signifying their potential use in future research. In short, the present study demonstrated the performance of various supervised ML algorithms for bead geometry prediction, which would assist the selection of appropriately supervised ML algorithms in future studies.
