Social responsibility and competitiveness in hotels: The role of customer loyalty Pages 1797-1802 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Ahmed Mehrez

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2019.12.039

🔑 Keywords: Social Responsibility (SR), Sustainability, Customer Loyalty, Competitiveness, Hotel industry, Qatar

Abstract:
The concept of Social Responsibility (SR) has been evolved during the last decade and most organisations care about their society and the environment. While incorporating SR programs through organizational strategies would be mostly optional, the benefits of “doing a good business” may enhance competitiveness. Hospitality industry is not far from this where hotel sector can achieve several desirable outcomes adopting SR initiatives. Despite the fact that many services are intangible by their nature and they are evaluated based on perceptions, the willingness created by social initiatives can lead to an advantage through brand image. In re-turn, a “good social reputation” can create and maintain customer loyalty in hotels and hospi-tality. This paper investigates the role of SR on competitiveness through the mediating role of customer loyalty. A model is developed and examined through hotel industry in Qatar. Statis-tical results show that all research hypotheses were accepted and customer loyalty could be retained by incorporating SR values affecting competitiveness in hospitality industry in Qatar.

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2019.7.028

🔑 Keywords: Servant Leadership, Trust in Leader Job satisfaction, Hotel industry

Abstract:
The huge growth in economies of Dubai during the past few decades requires a high level of leadership and management. Leaders who act as a mere management representative and are not able to perform in various styles cannot be effective. For a leader to show ineffectiveness means distrust, which lowers the satisfaction of a population in different aspects. Hence leadership and trust are topics that require further examination. This study tries to determine the interaction among servant leadership (SL) and job satisfaction (JS) while utilizing the trust degree in leader (TIL) as a mediator factor between leadership approach and level of satisfaction in job. The research was conducted on 260 employees in four different hotels in Dubai (Jood Plaza, Sadaf Delmon, Ibis International and Address hotel). Correlation analyses have shown a positive and significant relationship between (SI), (JS) and trust. There is a large gap in the literature when it comes to the direct relationship of (SL) and (JS) in general, and this research hopes to fill the gap and enhance the achievement process for managerial level.

Customer interactions on social media and their impact on trust and loyalty: the moderating role of product learning Pages 1497-1506 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Ismet Esenyel, Mete Girgen

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2019.5.003

🔑 Keywords: Social media, Customer interaction, Customer trust, Customer loyalty, Hotel industry, Tourism and hospitality

Abstract:
This research examines the customer engagement on social media platforms in the tourism industry and its effect on customer loyalty through the mediated effect of customer trust. Furthermore, the moderating role of product learning is investigated on the hypothesized relationships. Data was collected from guests in 5 stars hotels in Kyrenia region in Northern Cyprus. In this study, out of the 459 collected surveys, only 419 were analyzed due to missing or incomplete data. The analysis conducted here followed the two step approach for structure equations modelling. Firstly, a confirmato-ry factor analysis was appraised to prepare data for structural model. Then the structural model helped shape our direct hypothesis testing, before analyzing the mediating and moderating impacts. The data provided evidence to link customer interactions on social media with trust and loyalty (Hypotheses 1-3) while trust revealed a mediating effect between interaction and loyalty. Finally, product learning did have an empowering impact on the relationship between interaction and trust.

A survey of activity-based costing in hotel industry Pages 855-860 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Zadollah Fathi, Elham Sadat Mousavi Dozdahiri

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2015.6.012

🔑 Keywords: ABC, Activity based cost, Hotel industry

Abstract:
This paper presents an empirical investigation on implementation of activity based cost (ABC) method in hotel industry. The study determines four possible factors of organizational, environmental, individual and technological, which could influence on ABC implementation. The study selects a sample of 205 employees who worked for Laleh International Hotel in Iran. Using one-way t-student test, the study has determined that all variables were effective on ABC implementation while individual factor was the most important one. In addition, correlation test has determined that all variables had meaningful correlations with each other. Further investigation indicates that gender did not play essential role for ABC implementation while experienced employee tended to be more effective for the success of ABC implementation.

Authors: Seyedvahid Najafi, Saber Saati, Mohammad Kazem Bighami, Farshid Abdi

🔑 Keywords: Hotel industry, Quality management, Service quality, SERVQUAL model, Structural equation

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the dimensions of hotel service quality, to assess relative importance of them and to evaluate service quality of Tehran hotels in terms of guests’ perspectives. The paper examines the reliability and validity of the designed scale based on SERVQUAL model. A cross-sectional research based on SERVQUAL model conducted on nine hotels in Tehran (n=1080). Several statistical analyses such as EFA, CFA, Linear regression and t-test were applied to analyze the data. Five service quality dimensions were identified and named as “tangibles”, “problem solving”, “service supply”, “empathy” and “security”. Even though our findings confirmed five dimensional SERVQUAL constructs, some dimensions have been identified differing from SERVQUAL scale dimensions. Finding showed that the best overall service quality predictor is “tangibles” followed by “service supply”, “problem solving”, “assurance” and “empathy”.
