A finite time horizon inventory problem for a deteriorating item having two separate warehouses, one with an own warehouse (OW) of finite dimension and the other with a rented warehouse (RW), is developed in fuzzy environment. Due to different preserving facilities and storage environment, inventory holding cost is considered to be different in different warehouses. The demand rate of item depends on the selling price and is displayed stocked level in own warehouse. Shortages are allowed and backlogged them partially, which depends on the duration of stock out. The stocks of RW are transported to OW in continuous release pattern. Due to impreciseness in nature, total revenue and shortage cost are assumed to be imprecise in nature too. By using the fuzzy goal programming method, multi-objective problem is converted into single objective function. The model is illustrated numerically and the results are presented in tabular form.

In this paper, an inventory model of two-warehouse is considered, which evaluates the impact of a reduction rate in the selling price with volume flexibility. In real life, there are many products, which may decay or deteriorate or become obsolete. Therefore, one alternative is to clear the stock by selling a large amount of items at reduced prices. Taking this concept into account, this paper considers a fixed demand rate at the beginning of planning until the certain time point occurs, while demand is assumed to follow the pattern of nonlinear and non-decreasing power function of the reduction rate. The total cost function includes warehouse and rented warehouse holding costs, set up cost and the production cost. Numerical illustrations are given to exemplify the model and the proposed model is solved using a Genetic Algorithm (GA) with sensitivity analysis.

This study investigated the selective synthesis of aryl-bis(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methane for the first time under microwave irradiation in solvent-free medium within 5 min using 10 mol % of B(HSO4)3 (BSA) as reusable solid acid catalyst. The same reaction could also be conducted at 90-100 °C in neat for the formation of alkyl or aryl 14H-dibenzoxanthenes in presence of BSA catalyst with excellent yields.

Dry friction depends on the surface topography which, in turn, is governed by machining parameters in addition to several other factors,. Therefore, in order to establish a qualitative relationship among these factors, the surface roughness and coefficient of static friction are measured for specimens machined on lathe and shaper machines with different values of machining parameters. For the case of lathe, the measured Ra value is found to increase with increase in feed rate and depth of cut, whereas, a marginal decrease is observed with increasing spindle speed. Similar results with respect to cutting speed have been obtained for the case of shaper machine. On the other hand, the coefficient of static friction, measured on steel substrate using inclined plane method, is found to decrease with increasing Ra values for both the specimen types.

The Taguchi’s orthogonal array is based on a mathematical model of factorial designs. This paper investigates the effects of four parameters in Probability of Default (PD) using Black-Scholes model (BSM) for call option at one period by considering asset value V, firm’s debt X, expected growth r and the volatility σ. The main aim is to determine which parameters affect mostly on PD of a firm. The experiment is based on the orthogonal array L9 in which the four parameters are varied at three levels. Finally, the ANOM is used to describe the best combination and ANOVA is implemented to measure the contribution of the given independent variables.

In the present experimental study, two dissimilar sister aluminum alloys, 5083 and 5086, are welded through friction stir welding process. Different experiments are conducted on vertical milling machine through a fixture design and firm holding welding plates on it. These experiments are performed by varying welding parameters including welding speed, rpm, different pin profiles, tool tilt angle at five levels each. Two different mechanical properties of the welded specimen (i.e. tensile strength and percentage of elongation) have been tested and compared with the base metals to find out the joint efficiency. Also it is observed that rpm, tool tilt angle and different pin profiles make significant impacts on friction stir welded joints. Tool rpm increases the tensile strength to an extent. Also, tool pin profile affects the stirring or plastic flow of material under tool shoulder. It is shown through visual and optical analysis that surface finish and weld quality of joints depend on tool tilt angle.

A wide range of obstacles faced by people with disabilities, such as visual impairment, motor disability, and communication difficulties, have shown significant promise for being addressed by computer vision. The state-of-the-art in computer vision-based assistive technology is examined in this report along with major future research topics and obstacles. In particular, this study explores how computer vision can be used for object recognition, navigation, facial recognition, sign language interpretation, and gesture-based control interfaces. It also discusses the benefits and drawbacks of various methodologies and technologies and offers examples of how computer vision can be incorporated into current assistive technologies to boost their efficacy. The ethical and privacy issues surrounding the use of computer vision in assistive technologies are covered in this study effort. The study also highlights the need for protocol standardization, better user-centered design, and the assessment of real-world effectiveness as future research objectives for improving the use of computer vision in assistive technology. Overall, this paper sheds light on how computer vision might completely alter the world of assistive technologies for people with impairments.

This paper outlines the vibrational response of a cracked rotor in static and rotating condition through Campbell diagram. An open crack in the rotor changes its stiffness. The effect of which is seen on the natural frequency of the system. The natural frequency of the cracked rotor increases in comparison to un-cracked rotor. Experimental and simulation work is performed in the static condition to study the natural frequency of the rotor. Campbell diagram is generated through Simulation in ANSYS to study the critical speed variation at first (I) and second (II) Engine order (EO) line for cracked and un-cracked rotor.

The application of material handling robots (MHRs) has been commonly observed in flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) for efficient material handling activities. In order to gain maximum throughput, minimum tardiness from the minimum investment of funds for the material handling activities, it is important to determine the optimum numbers of MHRs required for efficient production of jobs in the FMS. In the present work, the requirement of MHRs is optimized for different FMS layouts by using a heuristic procedure. Initially, a mathematical model is proposed to identify the MHRs requirement to perform the material handling activities in the FMS, later on, the model is optimized by simulating a novel heuristic procedure to find the required optimum number of MHRs in the FMS. The proposed methodology is found to be generic enough and can also be applied in various industries employing the MHRs.
