In this paper, we explored an economic production quantity model (EPQ) model for finite production rate and deteriorating items with time-dependent trapezoidal demand. The objective of the model under study is to determine the optimal production run-time as well as the number of production cycle in order to maximize the profit. Numerical example is also given to illustrate the model and sensitivity analyses regarding various parameters are performed to study their effects on the optimal policy.

The present work deals with the comparison of four multi response optimization methods, viz. multiple response signal-to-noise (MRSN) ratio, weighted signal-to-noise (WSN) ratio, Grey relational analysis (GRA), and VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje in Serbian) methods taking a case study in turning mild steel specimen using HSS cutting tool. The various factors like cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut and coolant flow rate are considered as the input process variables, while the material removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (SR) and specific energy consumption (SEC) are considered as various performance characteristics. One set of experimental data is analyzed using the standardized procedures. The optimization performances of these four methods are compared. The results show that MRSN ratio method proves to be the best optimization method. It is found that the feed rate has a highest impact on the overall performance as compared to other process parameters.

Fault detection process (FDP) and Fault correction process (FCP) are important phases of software development life cycle (SDLC). It is essential for software to undergo a testing phase, during which faults are detected and corrected. The main goal of this article is to allocate the testing resources in an optimal manner to minimize the cost during testing phase using FDP and FCP under dynamic environment. In this paper, we first assume there is a time lag between fault detection and fault correction. Thus, removal of a fault is performed after a fault is detected. In addition, detection process and correction process are taken to be independent simultaneous activities with different budgetary constraints. A structured optimal policy based on optimal control theory is proposed for software managers to optimize the allocation of the limited resources with the reliability criteria. Furthermore, release policy for the proposed model is also discussed. Numerical example is given in support of the theoretical results.

Trade credit is the most succeeding economic phenomenon which is used by the supplier for encouraging the retailers to buy more quantity. In this article, a mathematical model with stock dependent demand and deterioration is developed to investigate the retailer’s optimal inventory policy under the scheme of permissible delay in payment. It is assumed that defective items are produced during the production process and delay period is progressive. The objective is to minimize the total average cost of the system. To exemplify hypothesis of the proposed model numerical examples and sensitivity analysis are provided. Finally, the convexities of the cost functions and the effects of changing parameters are represented through the graphs.

Component-based software system (CBSS) development technique is an emerging discipline that promises to take software development into a new era. As hardware systems are presently being constructed from kits of parts, software systems may also be assembled from components. It is more reliable to reuse software than to create. It is the glue code and individual components reliability that contribute to the reliability of the overall system. Every component contributes to overall system reliability according to the number of times it is being used, some components are of critical usage, known as usage frequency of component. The usage frequency decides the weight of each component. According to their weights, each component contributes to the overall reliability of the system. Therefore, ranking of components may be obtained by analyzing their reliability impacts on overall application. In this paper, we propose the application of fuzzy multi-objective optimization on the basis of ratio analysis, Fuzzy-MOORA. The method helps us find the best suitable alternative, software component, from a set of available feasible alternatives named software components. It is an accurate and easy to understand tool for solving multi-criteria decision making problems that have imprecise and vague evaluation data. By the use of ratio analysis, the proposed method determines the most suitable alternative among all possible alternatives, and dimensionless measurement will realize the job of ranking of components for estimating CBSS reliability in a non-subjective way. Finally, three case studies are shown to illustrate the use of the proposed technique.

For many centuries, knowledge has been acting as the backbone of the progress of mankind but very recently it has been supplemented with the concept of management. Yet, the term knowledge management (KM) is being coined very recently and it has gained very huge popularity. Today, organizations have recognized the importance of knowledge management and are continuously working with it. The research paper is dedicated to different aspects of knowledge management and focuses on different views of the researchers on knowledge, knowledge management, KM processes, objectives, benefits, myths and errors.

Novel 1,5-benzothiazepin-4-(5H)-one derivatives (8a-8g) have been synthesized by intramolecular cyclization of 6 using propyl phosphonic anhydride (T3P) as a cyclodehydrating agent. The anti-angiogenic and anti-oxidant properties of the new derivatives were then evaluated. Compounds 8b, 8d, 8e, 8f and 8g exhibited very good inhibition of capillary proliferation, thus proving their anti-angiogenic properties. In addition, the in vitro antioxidant activities of these compounds were evaluated using diphenyl picryl hydrazine (DPPH), OH-, metal ion-chelating and NO (nitric oxide) assays, and the results compared with butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), a well known anti-oxidant. Compounds 8a-8g showed excellent free-radical scavenging activities in the metal ion-chelating assay, and compounds 8f and 8g showed nitric oxide radical scavenging properties at a concentration of 20-100 µg/mL, and are thus more potent than BHT.

Global pandemic has provoked industries with unprecedented challenges. Stratagems to squash the COVID-19 bow like communal lockdown, social isolation, work at home, containment zones and all restraints sited on travel with stay home orders issued by the authorities led to sharp failure in revenues of service and manufacturing industries. The COVID-19 pandemic has shattered the transportation links with supply chain amongst suppliers, production amenities and consumers. Mostly the business executives are penetrating about passable strategies and plans for restoring production lines to encounter customer mandates. In this paper the pandemic effect of Indian business is considered which are affected by critical barriers of supply chains in the Indian scenario. These critical barriers are identified on a priority basis using the MADM approach. Furthermore, the study will help the scholars to grow conceptual models for maintaining a better supply chain to overwhelm this world-wide problem.

This article deals with the thermoelastic interaction in a three-dimensional homogeneous and isotropic viscoelastic medium under the Dual-phase-lag model of generalized thermoelasticity. The resulting non-dimensional coupled equations are applied to a specific problem of a half-space whose surface is traction-free and is subjected to a time-dependent thermal shock. The analytical expressions for the displacement components, stress, temperature and strain are obtained in the physical domain by employing normal mode analysis. These expressions are also calculated for a copper-like material and have been depicted graphically. Discussions have been made to highlight the effect of viscosity on the studied field. The phenomenon of a finite speed of propagation is observed for each field. Also, if the effect of viscosity is neglected, the results agree with the existing literature.

Double-sided trimming shear machine is used for longitudinal both–sided trimming of steel plates and simultaneous scraping of trimmed edges at specific length. Side trimming shear (STS) executes the most vital role in increasing the productivity of plate mill and due to its feature, efficiency of plate mill division is enormously increases. In general, frequency of the occurrence of breakdown in STS machine is a most challenging task when STS performs side trimming and scrap cutting machining process. Bhilai Steel Plant (Steel Authority of India at Bhilai) in India is continuously facing a problem due to breakdown of STS machine. The use of separate knife for side trimming and scrap cutting reduces the possibility of scrap jamming which is a major reason for breakdown of STS machine. Researchers and practitioners also suggest the use of arc guillotine shear for side trimming and straight guillotine shear for scrap cutting for minimizing the breakdown in STS machine. The aim of this study is to describe the problems faced by the steel industry as well as the necessary steps which should be taken for improvement of the productivity of STS machine and also it has made contribution to Bhilai Steel Plant by its growth and prosperity. The methodology of study is purely qualitative and the results point out the problems, its implications, steps taken to improve the overall productivity of Bhilai steel plant.
