Authors: Thi Thanh Huyen Nguyen, Thi Van Hoa Tran, Manh Dung Tran, Vu Hiep Hoang, Van Hoa Hoang, Thi Thu Cuc Nguyen, Xuan Que Hoang, Huu Nghi Phan, Khanh Hung Tran, Viet Tien Tran

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2019.10.034

Keywords: Rice export, Trade agreement, Impact efficiency, Vietnam

Abstract:
This paper conducted an indepth assessment on the efficiency of the impacts of trade agreements on rice exports during the period from 2000 to 2015. Based on the secondary data published by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam and the World Bank, the study employed random boundary gravity model to quantify the capacity of Vietnam to exploit rice export potential when participating in trade agreements, or in other words, to estimate the inefficiency in operation of rice export activities of Vietnam under the impact of trade agreements. The results show that rice export activities have not promoted well (at a low level) the impact of the trade agreements that Vietnam has participated in and not all trade agreements have a trend to increase the capacity to exploit rice export potential. Since then, this study provides some recommendations to improve the impact of trade agreements on rice exports in developing countries including Vietnam.

Authors: Thi Thu Cuc Nguyen, Quang Bach Tran, Dieu Anh Ho, Duc Anh Duong, Thi Bich Thuy Nguyen

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2021.6.009

Keywords: Supply chain linkages, Trust, Business strategy orientation, Opportunistic behaviors, Business performance efficiency

Abstract:
The study aims to examine the impact of supply chain linkages on the performance of businesses. Quantitative research is used by implementing the analysis of the SEM linear structure model. A survey is conducted consisting of 598 samples - experienced managers who had the knowledge of the management of supply chain activities in enterprises in Vietnam. Research results show that supply chain linkages, although not having a direct impact, has an indirect impact on the business performance of enterprises through the intermediary factors of trust and business strategy and the opportunistic behaviors of the participating members. Also, research has demonstrated that opportunistic behaviors have negative effects on trust among members of the supply chain.

Abstract:
This paper examines the effects of the business environment on the labor productivity of Vietnamese manufacturing firms in the period of 2010-2018 using enterprise-level panel data drawn from Vietnamese Annual Enterprise Censuses and province-level surveys of the Provincial Competitiveness Index. Results show that in addition to traditional determinants, variables related to ease of business are found to contribute significantly to the labor productivity throughout the sample. The results support the arguments that Vietnam’s government policy in building a good business environment plays a crucial role in stimulating the economic growth, especially in terms of a broaden base for the economic development. Empirical studies about the in-depth effects of institutional changes on the labor productivity in the manufacturing industries will be fruitful research agenda.

The impact of ODA in constructing road traffic infrastructure on Vietnam’s economic growth Pages 99-106 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Thanh Cuong Dang, Dang Bang Nguyen, Thi Hang Trinh, Thi Thao Banh, Thi Thu Cuc Nguyen

DOI: 10.5267/j.jpm.2020.12.001

Keywords: ODA, Road traffic infrastructure

Abstract:
The study examines the impact of official development assistance (ODA) in constructing road transport infrastructure on Vietnam’s economic growth. The authors select gross domestic product (GDP) to represent economic growth and test the influence of ODA in constructing road traffic infrastructure on Vietnam's GDP. Based on the references and analysis of previous studies, the authors propose an impact assessment model of ODA in constructing road transport infrastructure, Foreign direct investment (FDI), Domestic Investment (VDT) and Labor Force (Labor) to economic growth through GDP as a dependent variable. The regression results show that the ODA had a positive impact on GDP. Moreover, ODA plays an important role in constructing road transport infrastructure on Vietnam’s economic growth.

The linkages between growth, poverty and inequality in Vietnam: An empirical analysis Pages 177-184 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Hoai Nam Nguyen, Quoc Hoi Le, Thi Thu Cuc Nguyen

DOI: 10.5267/j.ac.2019.10.005

Keywords: Poverty, Inequality, Economic growth, Vietnam

Abstract:
This paper examines how initial inequality and poverty rate are related to subsequent economic growth in the provincial level of Vietnam. The results show a robust negative relationship between initial poverty rate and subsequent economic growth. However, there is no link between initial inequality and subsequent economic growth. The results also show that lower inequality leads to lower poverty rate and poverty reduction could help to reduce inequality. Other determinants of inequality and poverty reduction include human capital, investment, gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate and trade openness. The main policy implication that emerges from this paper is that concentrating on poverty elimination will help us build a more equitable society without sacrificing economic growth.
