doi 10.5267/j.msl.2019.8.032 Crossmark

Keywords: Internal and external barriers, Entrepreneurial intention, Vietnamese students

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the effects of internal barriers, including personal traits and cognitive condi-tions, and external barriers, including normative and regulative structures, on entrepreneurial intention among Vietnamese students. By collecting data from 437 students at high schools, universities and colleges in Vietnam, authors employ a quantitative method such as certain descriptive statistics, explorative analysis (EFA), KMO and Bartlett test, correlation coefficient analysis, and logistic regression to examine the relationship be-tween entrepreneurial barriers with different issues including personal traits, cognitive condition, normative and regulative structures, and entrepreneurial intention. The research results show that all four independent variables; namely barriers related to personal traits, cognitive condition, normative and regulative structures had negative effects on entrepreneurial intention. Particularly, cognitive conditions are seen as the most influential barrier to entrepreneurial intention, followed by personal traits, regulative and normative structures.

The role of structural support in predicting entrepreneurial intention: Insights from Vietnam Pages 1783-1798 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Tran Van Trang, Duong Cong Doanh

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2019.6.012 Crossmark

Keywords: Structural support, Entrepreneurial intention, Attitudes, Subjective norms, Perceived behavioral control

Abstract:
By adopting the theory of planned behaviour, our study develops research model to analyse the effect of structural support on the entrepreneurial cognitive process among university students in Vietnam. Authors employ a meta-analytic path analysis with a sample of 2218 students at 14 universities in Vietnam in order to show that although structural support has positive effect on attitude towards entrepreneurship and perceived behavioural control, it also has negative influence on subjective norms and entrepreneurial intention. Interestingly, different with some previous studies, authors investigate the significant and direct relationship between subjective norms and entrepreneurial in-tention in the economic transitional context of Vietnam. Moreover, analogously to many researches adapting the planed behavioural control, attitude toward entrepreneurship is still seen as the strongest influencing factor on entrepreneurial intention, followed by perceived behavioural control and subjective norms.

Entrepreneurial self-efficacy and intention among Vietnamese students: A meta-analytic path analysis based on the theory of planned behaviour Pages 1847-1862 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Duong Cong Doanh, Tran Van Trang

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2019.6.007 Crossmark

Keywords: Entrepreneurial self-efficacy, Entrepreneurial intention, Theory of planned behaviour

Abstract:
This study develops a mediated model to investigate the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention among Vietnamese students. This model also focuses on examining the role of subjective norms on shaping entrepreneurial intention. By using a meta-analytic path analysis with a sample of 2218 students at 14 universities in Vietnam and based on the theory of planned behaviour, authors find that subjective norms did not directly influence on entrepreneurial intention but it had strong indirect effect on entrepreneurial intention through entrepreneurial self-efficacy, attitude toward entrepreneurship and perceived behavioural control. Moreover, the relationship between self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention was also mediated by attitude towards entrepreneurship and perceived behavioural control. In terms of direct effect, the result illustrates that attitudes towards entrepreneurship had the strongest effect on entrepreneurial intention among Vietnamese students, followed by entrepreneurial self-efficacy. These findings also show that the theory of planned behaviour could be effectively applied in the context of transitional economics in Vietnam.

Keywords: The intention of starting a business, Lifestyle, Entrepreneurial aptitudes

Abstract:
Even though nowadays the concept of entrepreneurship has become popular in Vietnam, there are a few researches on starting up a business and the factors effect on the desirability of becoming an entrepreneur. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of entre-preneurial aptitudes, the need of getting higher income and lifestyle on the desirability of starting a business. In the theory and hypothesis section, the principal factors associated with the entrepreneurial desirability are indicated. After that, the overview of entrepreneurship in Vietnam is presented. In addition, by collecting data from 289 students in Vietnam, authors used quantitative analyses by some tools such as such as descriptive statistics, factor analysis, ANOVA test and linear regressions to test the hypothesis of the relationship between entrepreneurial aptitudes, the need of getting higher income and lifestyle with entre-preneurial desirability. As a result, all three independent variables positively affect the Vietnamese students’ desirability of starting a business. Specially, the need of increasing income is seen as the most influential factor on entrepreneurial desirability, followed by lifestyle en-trepreneurial aptitudes.
