The role of psychological mechanisms in enhancing students’ financial wellbeing: An integration of financial literacy and the conservation of resources theory Pages 103-114 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Wirawan Endro Dwi Radianto, Ersa Lanang Sanjaya, Flora Samosir, Ika Raharja Salim, Daniel Cristianindra Radianto

doi 10.5267/j.dsl.2025.10.006

🔑 Keywords: Financial wellbeing, Financial literacy, Self-control, Mental budgeting, Mental accounting

Abstract:
This study explores how financial literacy affects students’ financial well-being by looking at the psychological factors that play a role—specifically self-control, mental budgeting, and mental accounting—as mediating variables. The research aims to better understand how cognitive and psychological resources help young people achieve financial well-being in a university setting. Using a quantitative, survey-based approach, the study gathered data from 781 students across four Indonesian cities. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine both the direct and indirect relationships between the variables. The results show that financial literacy has a significant impact on financial well-being, both directly and indirectly, through the influence of self-control, mental budgeting, and mental accounting. Based on the Conservation of Resources Theory, financial literacy serves as a cognitive resource that helps students protect and manage their financial assets more effectively. The findings suggest that universities and policymakers should develop financial literacy programs that also address psychological aspects such as self-control and budgeting habits. Integrating these elements can help students feel more financially secure and maintain better life balance. Overall, this study offers both theoretical and practical insights by connecting financial literacy with the management of psychological resources, and it points to new directions for developing psychology-based financial education to enhance young people’s financial well-being.

Authors: Gede Bayu Rahanatha, Ni Nyoman Kerti Yasa, I G.A.K. Giantari, Ni Wayan Ekawati

doi 10.5267/j.ijdns.2023.5.009

🔑 Keywords: CRM, Hedonic shopping, Self-control, Urge to buy impulsively, Impulsive buying

Abstract:
Bali's culture is synonymous with its inhabitants' practice of celebrating religious holidays. Hindu women in Bali often purchase ritual equipment. This research aims to identify the determinants of impulsive buying among Hindu women in the retail industry, as well as the impact of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) on managing this behavior. The research method used is quantitative, with a sample size of 250 respondents analyzed using Smart PLS. The results show that the hedonic shopping value has a favorable and substantial influence on impulsive purchasing, as does the desire to buy impulsively. Self-control has the potential to adversely moderate the effect of the desire to acquire on impulsive purchasing. Hedonic shopping value is important to consider, thus marketing programs should accommodate the hedonic shopping value that Hindu women in Bali seek when shopping for Galungan (yadnya) preparations.

Abstract:
The recent development on internet banking has contributed to this industry, significantly. People could do their banking transactions by clicking a bottom and transfer funds, pay bills, etc. In this paper, we present an empirical investigation to find out the effects of different factors on continuous internet banking. The proposed study of this paper has adopted a questionnaire, which was originally developed by Ho and Ko (2008) [Ho, S. H., & Ko, Y. Y. (2008). Effects of self-service technology on customer value and customer readiness: The case of Internet banking. Internet Research, 18(4), 427-446.]. We have used Pearson correlation test as well as stepwise regression techniques to verify the effect of different factors and the results of our survey show that four variables of easy implementation, usefulness, cost reduction and self-control positively influence continuous internet banking.
