An overview of the anticancer activity of some mononuclear and polynuclear platinum(II) complexes Pages 611-632 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Sheetal Giri, Ajay Singh, K. Kumar

doi 10.5267/j.ccl.2024.1.005

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Cancer, Platinum, Metal Complexes, Drug Design, Anticancer Activity

Abstract:
A famous cisplatin anticancer agent is one of the most widely used chemotherapeutics for treating several human solid tumors. Toxicity of the normal cell is a life-threatening issue that restricts the therapeutic potential of cisplatin complex as an anticancer drug. Even though every year thousands of cisplatin-based analogs have been prepared, screened, and reported, only very few compounds entered the medical trials. Hence, new research work is still sensible. In the last few years, many mononuclear and polynuclear platinum complexes have been considerably investigated, in vitro and in vivo studies evaluated, with some compounds demonstrating significant anticancer potential. In this review, various mono-metallic and poly-metallic platinumโ€based complexes with various derivatives used as ligands that have anticancer potential are defined and numerous typical examples are discussed briefly. Present investigation, numerous mononuclear cisplatin derivatives exhibited greater anticancer potency than the parent cisplatin drug. However, polynuclear cisplatin derivatives showed much better anticancer activity than mononuclear cisplatin analogs against various cancer cell lines.

Synthesis, characterization, and biological activities of five new trivalent lanthanide complexes of hydrazine and 3,3โ€™-thiodipropanoic acid Pages 721-732 PDF Download PDF

Authors: K. Kumar, S. Murugesan, T. M Muneeswaran, C. M. Ramakritinan

doi 10.5267/j.ccl.2023.5.003

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Hydrazine, Carboxylic Acid, Lanthanoids, Metal Complexes, Biological Activity

Abstract:
Some new hydrazine complexes of trivalent lanthanide 3,3โ€™-thiodipropanoates of empirical formulae [M(N2H5)(tdp)2] and [Pr(N2H5)(tdp)2ยทH2O], where M = La, Ce, Sm and Nd, H2tdp = 3,3โ€™-thiodipropanoic acid, have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, mass, FTIR, Raman and electronic spectral, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and simultaneous TGโ€“DTA techniques. The presence of bidentate carboxylate anion and coordinated N2H5 in these complexes are confirmed by IR spectra. TGA/DTA results confirmed that all the rare earth metal complexes give the corresponding metal carbonate (heating up to 1000 ยฐC) through a metal oxalate intermediate. SEM images of Pr2O3 residue obtained from its complex show nano-sized clusters, thus the complex may be used as a precursor for nano-Pr2O3 preparation. The synthesized complexes show good antimicrobial activity against six bacteria (Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Serratia species) and four fungi (Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Penicillium variance) as assessed by in vitro biological activity.

Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of Co(III), Ni(II) and VO(IV) metal complexes with a novel Schiff base ligand and their antimicrobial activities Pages 39-52 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Disha Sharma, Hosakere D. Revanasiddappa

doi 10.5267/j.ccl.2018.12.003

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Schiff base, Metal complexes, X-ray crystal structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis, Antibacterial and antifungal

Abstract:
A new series of transition metal complexes of Co(III), Ni(II) and VO(IV) was synthesized with the bidentate Schiff base ligand (HL) derived from the condensation of 2-amino-3-benzyloxypyridine and 5-bromo salicylaldehyde. The synthesized Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes C1-C6 were structurally characterized by satisfactory elemental analysis, spectral studies such as (Mass, IR, 1H and 13C NMR, conductance measurement, UV-vis and magnetic measurements) and thermal studies. The structure of HL was authenticated by X-ray single-crystal analysis. Hirshfeld surface analysis was carried out to understand the nature of intermolecular contacts, the fingerprint plot provides the information about the percentage contribution. Square-pyramidal geometry is proposed for VO(IV) complexes whereas octahedral geometry for Co(III) and Ni(II) complexes. The Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes have been tested in vitro for their antibacterial activities by using well diffusion method against Gram positive bacteria B. subtilis, S. aureus and Gram negative bacteria S. typhi, E. coli and antifungal activities against A. niger, A. flavus, C. albicans and A. Solani. The antimicrobial activity data show that metal complexes are more potent than the parent ligand.

Authors: Hitendra Kumar Lautre, Taibi Ben Hadda, Snigdha Das, Ajai Kumar Pillai

doi 10.5267/j.ccl.2014.12.002

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Antibacterial activity, Metal complexes, N-hydroxy-4-[(hydroxyimino)methyl]benzamidine, Reverse transcriptase inhibitor HIV-1

Abstract:
In the present work, Zn(II), Co(II) and Cr(II) metal complexes (3-5) of N-hydroxy-4-[(hydroxyimino)methyl]benzamidine ligand (2) were synthesized and their anti-HIV activity by inhibiting reverse transcriptase was explored. Structural characterization using NMR, FTIR, Mass, UV-Vis spectra, TGA, magnetic moment and elemental analyses were performed. The analyses show that geometry, lipophilicity and steric factor play crucial role. Cell viability test is performed on peripheral blood mononuclear cells to check toxicity of prepared compounds on immune system, shows toxicity only at higher concentration. Antimicrobial activity and DNA cleavage analysis have also been studied and reported.

doi 10.5267/j.ccl.2011.12.007

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: 3-(1-3-Benzoxazol-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ol, Fluorescence, Metal complexes

Abstract:
A series of novel metal complexes containing metal atoms such as Zn, Co, Cu, Cd, Ni, Mg and Sn have been synthesized from 3-(1,3-benzoxazol-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ol. The synthesized ligand was well characterized by IR, 1H-NMR and mass spectrometry. The electrochemical properties were studied by cyclic voltammetric analysis. The synthesized complexes are fluorescent and absorb in the range of 317 to 323 nm while emit in the range of 371 to 416 nm with good quantum yield. All metal complexes show significant in vitro antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus strains and in vitro antifungal activity against C. albicans and A. niger strains by using serial dilution method. The antibacterial activities were expressed as the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in ?g/mL.
