Keywords: Corporate Governance, Corporate Social Responsibilities, Performance, Financial Reporting Quality

Abstract:
The aim of the study is to determine the effectiveness of corporate governance on corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance and financial reporting quality in Saudi Arabia's manufacturing sector. The data is collected through the database of Thomson Reuters from 30 manufacturing companies of Saudi Arabia over the period 2014-2020. Descriptive statistics and the generalized least square (GLS) model were applied. The dependent variable was calculated through residuals and was found as discretionary accruals (DA). The findings reveal that there was a positive influence of corporate governance on CSR performance and financial reporting quality. It was found that sample size was one of the biggest limitations because only data from 2014 to 2020 were collected and to make the study more reliable and authentic, larger data is required.

doi 10.5267/j.jpm.2024.11.004 Crossmark

Keywords: CEO Characteristics, Firm Performance, Governance Quality

Abstract:
This study analyses the association between CEO characteristics and financial performance as well as the role that a firm’s governance system may play in enhancing financial performance in the Jordanian context. To achieve this purpose, 2251 firm-year observations were collected from firms listed on the Amman Stock Exchange from 2009-2022. Overall, the results show that there is a positive and significant association between CEO tenure and firm performance. The results also show that the CEO compensation is positively linked with firm performance. However, CEO age and ownership are found to be insignificantly associated with firm performances. Regarding the moderating role of governance quality, the result shows a positive and highly significant impact on CEO tenure and CEO age. Otherwise, whether the quality of governance is high or low, it does not affect the CEO’s compensation and ownership. This study recommends firms listed on the Amman Stock Exchange changing their policy regarding CEO compensation by, for example, including stock options to enhance firm performances.

However, such technology has also exposed changes in the financial behaviors of the millennial generation. Hence, this article analyzes how digital financial literacy impacts financial behavior in the Jordanian millennial generation. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to estimate the relationship between the research variables. The findings revealed that digital financial literacy with its dimensions, i.e., digital knowledge, digital experience, digital skills, and digital awareness had a positive impact on financial behavior. This article depicts the level of digital financial literacy among Jordan's millennial generation. Therefore, it suggested a set of recommendations revolving around developing and promoting financial education programs for Jordanian millennials in collaboration with educational institutions, government agencies, and financial institutions.

Keywords: Big Data, Financial Reporting Quality, Industrial Sector, Jordan

Abstract:
The current manuscript aimed to explain the impact of big data on the financial reporting quality of the industrial sector in Jordan. To achieve the manuscript goals and validate hypotheses, a field study was conducted by distributing a questionnaire to 325 financial managers in industrial companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange during a specific period. Gathered data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The manuscript concluded that the big data dimensions, including variety, volume, and velocity, had a positive impact on financial reporting quality. Therefore, a set of recommendations were provided to managers of the industrial companies in Jordan to put in place an extensive data governance system to as-sure data quality, security, privacy, and compliance. To ensure the integrity and dependability of financial reporting, define data ownership, create data quality standards, and develop processes for data access, use, and preservation.

Key success factors in implementing international public sector accounting standards Pages 239-248 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Ayman Ahmad Abu Haija, Alaa Mohammad AlQudah, Laith Abdallah Aryan, Mohammad Jamal Jamal Azzam

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2020.9.012 Crossmark

Keywords: IPSAS, Key success factors, Public entities, Performance

Abstract:
There is a worldwide debate regarding the implementation of IPSAS due to the potential obstacles that may face governments when they start moving to the full accrual basis. Of equal importance is that each country has its own needs and thus it must be examined separately to find out the factors that may motivate or limit the effective adoption of IPSAS. This study, therefore, aims to explore the key success factors when it comes to adopting IPSAS in Jordan. A 39-item questionnaire was devised and sent to 500 employees who were working in public entity departments. Only 326 questionnaires were returned, yielding a response rate of 65.2%. The results suggested that the most important factors were local legislation and the infrastructure, while the training of staff came at the bottom of list. These results are important to regulators for drawing up a clear road map for transferring fully to IPSAS.
