Authors: L. Childs, K. Jenab, S. Moslehpour

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2018.8.008

Keywords: Medical equipment, Medical field, Petri Net, Reliability, Reliability block diagrams, Technology

Abstract:
The medical industry incorporates technology and breaks different types of equipment into three various categories determined according to the technologies and their usage. The first category, which is the focus of this article, consists of devices that are directly linked to the life of the patients, for example a ventilator. The purpose of this study is to develop a new reliability technique, based on the Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) and Petri Net, for Category 1 equipment. The RBD, focuses on showing how the failure of different parts could affect the sub-systems of the equipment and how those failures could cause an overall system failure. The second method, Petri Net, is a tool that is used to analyze various types of information processing systems. Combining these two methods will allow the user to determine the reliability of the different systems and subsystems with various pieces of equipment. The knowledge gained by this analysis will be used to determine the likelihood that the failure of specific subsystems will cause an overall system failure. The overall anticipated result is to thoroughly develop this new methodology. The complete process that is used to finish the calculation process for the subsystems will be shown, in addition to the completion of the final Reliability Block Diagram.

Authors: Nizar Alam Hamdani

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2018.4.024

Keywords: Knowledge-Creation, The strength of competition, Technology, Business orientation

Abstract:
Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) of Batik play strategic roles such as a substance, a mover, and a buffer of the nation’s economy and supporting the national economic growth sustain-ably. However, these SMEs have not been able to compete in both national and international levels. This is caused by the low rate of knowledge-creation. In line with this, this study aims to reveal how the knowledge-creation can create the competition atmosphere of the SMEs with the support from technology and entrepreneurship orientation. Additionally, the methodology employed in this study was explanatory survey design, with 286 Batik business units as sample. More specifically, the sampling technique to select the target area was non-probability in form of purposive sampling. The data were then analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Further, the result of this study reveals that knowledge-creation influences on creating the business competition atmosphere with the support of the technology and entrepreneurship and orientation. Based on the research finding, SMEs Batik finds it difficult to organize the collection of Explicit Knowledge into a more systematic media, due to the lack of media infrastructure to keep the knowledge. In addition, tech-nology adoption is not necessary for handmade batik by considering that handmade batik relies on personal skill.

Abstract:
As battery electric vehicles become more prevalent in emerging markets, it is important that policymakers and the public consider their potential to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This study explores the link between financial knowledge, attitude and green economic sustainability. The study, which was conducted in Indonesia, collected data about 155 individuals. Through a PLS-SEM analysis, the study revealed that financial knowledge and green innovation were related to the attitude toward sustainability. The study also found that green innovation was associated with the economic sustainability of the country. However, it did not find any significant relationship between financial knowledge and green investment. The study revealed that financial literacy is very important for consumers to adopt sustainable practices. It can help them make informed decisions when it comes to the use of battery electric vehicles. This study was conducted after the Indonesian government stated that it would promote the use of green products. Innovation and green investment can help improve the economic sustainability of a country by increasing people's green attitudes and knowledge.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the drivers of firms’ sociability on social media (SM), an unregulated area, in an emerging country, namely, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The sample of this study is 345 non-financial listed firms on Tadawul stock exchange during 2016-2019. Data are collected from several sources such as annual reports, the official website of the sample companies. Other data are collected manually such as the presence of the CEO and the sampled companies on SM. Our findings show that firm size and leverage level are important firms’ characteristics that drive firms’ sociability on social media. The finding shows that CEO sociability on social media is a key CEOs’ characteristic that drives firms’ sociability on social media. Further analysis reports that there is a complementary effect between CEO’s sociability on social media and firm size in increasing firms’ sociability on SM. The findings also show that there is a complementary effect between CEO’s sociability on social media and firm leverage in increasing firms’ sociability on SM. This study contributes to the disclosure literature by providing empirical evidence of the drivers of firms’ sociability on SM, an unregulated area in KSA. It also complements the considerable literature on voluntary disclosure which ignores the use of SM platforms as a “new” voluntary type of reporting. The present study complements recent literature on the adoption of SM by providing evidence that the sociability of top leaders is a driver of firms’ sociability on SM.
