Authors: Pardeep Rana, Prabhakar Kaushik

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2018.6.003

Keywords: Productivity Improvement, Six-Sigma, DMAIC, Problem Solving, Process capability

Abstract:
Nowadays, automobile industries are facing huge competition as the sector is expanding and ame-liorating day by day. All organizations are thriving to attain top position by increasing their produc-tivity. Productivity improvement is a function of eliminating rejection problem and improving system. To excel and improve the organizational efficiency a complete focus on finding root causes and eliminating factors responsible is needed. In industries, hurdles are associated with all operations. The existing study is about problem solving in a diecasting industry manufacturing alternator bracket. The authors explain the use of different statistical quality tools with the help of Minitab software to analyze root cause for enhancing the low productivity level. The streaming explanation of methodology can be useful for the organization of similar profile towards productivity improvement.

Statistics for industries: A sophisticated approach Pages 397-406 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Prabhakar Kaushik, Vijay Kumar Dahiya, Kapil Mittal

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2017.5.002

Keywords: Six-Sigma, Manufacturing firm, Statistical approach, Sigma level, Process capability

Abstract:
Six-Sigma is a statistical attitude – not judgment or sentiment. It is about statistical facts that as-sist the authorities to spotlight their concentration on the progression arrangement rather than on individuals and get assessments based on reality and unbiased information but not on impracti-cable prospects. Six-Sigma is an integrated approach to involve everything within the organiza-tion for reducing defects and variation. It is a combination of all efforts in an association for quality enhancement, quality progress and quality protection to reach the optimum clients satis-faction. The primary objective of Six-Sigma methodology is always directed towards the perfec-tion at any level whether financial or non-financial. Putting efforts rightly and maintaining con-sistency are the basic concepts behind successful implementation of Six-Sigma. The present work provides a way to examine the Six-Sigma practice in a manufacturing firm with the use of statistical thinking in getting high quality products by reducing the variation and ultimately in-creasing profit.

Capacity waste management at automotive industry in India: A Six Sigma observation Pages 109-116 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Rajeev Rathi, Dinesh Khanduja, S.K. Sharma

DOI: 10.5267/j.ac.2016.2.004

Keywords: DMAIC Approach, Automotive industries, Capacity waste, Six Sigma, D-Phase, Process capability

Abstract:
The companies in present challenging world are trying hard to improve their productivity and capacity utilization levels without actually increasing the sale price of their products. In India, in today combative world, the majority of automotive manufacturing industries are scuffling hard with their low levels of productivity. Possibly there are different reasons for this and capacity waste or under-utilization of productive capacity in industries appears to be one of the prime reasons. As corrective action, the present study makes an effort to check the efficacy of Six Sigma approach to improve capacity waste management. With a case study, through successful execution of Define phase, the study confirms the perception of Six Sigma for capacity waste management in Indian automotive industry.
