The impact of firm characteristics on dividends in Jordan: Institutional ownership as moderating variable Pages 907-920 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Leen Mahmoud, Yousef Abu Siam, Mahmoud Nassar, Mohammad Haroun Sharairi

doi 10.5267/j.uscm.2023.12.015

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Company Size, Company Age, Company Profitability, Dividends, Institutional Ownership

Abstract:
The objective of this research was to look at how firm attributes like age, size, as well as profitability affected the number of dividends paid. It also looked at how institutional ownership affected the connection between all these corporate characteristics as well as dividend payments as a moderating factor. A sample of forty publicly traded industrial businesses that were listed between 2016 and 2020 on the stock exchange in Amman were included in the research. The research analyzed the variables utilizing acceptable descriptive statistical techniques and used a model of multiple regression to test its predictions. The study's conclusions demonstrated that a company's size, years of existence, and income all positively affect dividend payments. Additionally, it found that corporate ownership had a strong correlation with dividend influence, as did both firm size as well as profitability. On the other hand, it discovered a negative correlation between the age of the firm as well as institutional ownership in terms of dividend effect. The research concludes with a proposal that Jordanian industrial enterprises should take size, years of operation, and profitability into account when determining how much dividend to pay out, acknowledging their important roles as well as effects on dividend distribution.

Authors: Lia Uzliawati, Nawang Kalbuana, Triyani Budyastuti, Roy Budiharjo, Kusiyah Kusiyah, Ahalik Ahalik

doi 10.5267/j.uscm.2023.3.020

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Sustainability, Millennial director, Board of commissioners size, Financial distress, Company size, Business reputation

Abstract:
In an era of challenging business and increasingly fierce competition, the company (business) reputation has become an increasingly valuable and vital asset. To maintain a good reputation, this study aims to explain what internal factors affect the business reputation and test the consistency of agency theory as a solution in explaining the influence of internal factors such as sustainability, millennial director, financial distress, board of commissioners, and company size on business reputation. The research used the power of panel data analysis, complemented by advanced statistical techniques such as Robust, Fixed Effects, Ordinary Least Square Regression, and Random Effects. This method is executed using Stata software, which offers incredible flexibility to seamlessly connect theoretical concepts and empirical data related to research variables. Results of this research show that sustainability and a board of commissioners are not able to have a significant influence on the business reputation; millennial directors and financial distress have a negative influence on the business reputation, while the company size has a significant positive effect on the business reputation. This research makes a valuable contribution to the company's management in considering important factors that can affect the business reputation, as well as taking appropriate steps to maintain and improve its reputation amid increasingly fierce business competition.

Internal auditor reports a fraud: Courage and pressure Pages 1813-1818 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Dini Rosdini, Aria Farah Mita, Dyah Setyaningrum

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2021.6.001

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Income smoothing, Company size, Leverage and profitability

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to examine whether internal auditors have the courage to report audit findings and fraud when they are under pressure and unpleasant situations. We used the experiment with 107 participants who were internal auditors from various companies. Participants were divided randomly into two groups with different treatments. The first group was given the low-pressure treatment by giving information that the companyโ€™s top management has good integrity and is open to every aspiration, and organizational culture is clean and free of corruption. Meanwhile, the second group was given high-pressure treatment in the form of information that the company's top management is firm and happy when all subordinates carry out their instructions and directions. The results show that the pressure influences auditors' courage to report fraud findings. Internal auditors with a low pressure are more willing to report indications of fraud than internal auditors with high pressure. Furthermore, the pressure will not impact reporting issues other than fraud. We found no difference in the reporting number of audit findings under low- or high-pressure conditions.
