The impact of firm characteristics on dividends in Jordan: Institutional ownership as moderating variable Pages 907-920 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Leen Mahmoud, Yousef Abu Siam, Mahmoud Nassar, Mohammad Haroun Sharairi

doi 10.5267/j.uscm.2023.12.015

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Company Size, Company Age, Company Profitability, Dividends, Institutional Ownership

Abstract:
The objective of this research was to look at how firm attributes like age, size, as well as profitability affected the number of dividends paid. It also looked at how institutional ownership affected the connection between all these corporate characteristics as well as dividend payments as a moderating factor. A sample of forty publicly traded industrial businesses that were listed between 2016 and 2020 on the stock exchange in Amman were included in the research. The research analyzed the variables utilizing acceptable descriptive statistical techniques and used a model of multiple regression to test its predictions. The study's conclusions demonstrated that a company's size, years of existence, and income all positively affect dividend payments. Additionally, it found that corporate ownership had a strong correlation with dividend influence, as did both firm size as well as profitability. On the other hand, it discovered a negative correlation between the age of the firm as well as institutional ownership in terms of dividend effect. The research concludes with a proposal that Jordanian industrial enterprises should take size, years of operation, and profitability into account when determining how much dividend to pay out, acknowledging their important roles as well as effects on dividend distribution.

Corporate governance on financial distress: Evidence from Indonesia Pages 1833-1844 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Eka Handriani, Imam Ghozali, Hersugodo Hersugodo

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2021.1.020

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Profitability, Institutional Ownership, Board Size, Board Independence, Financial distress

Abstract:
The main objective of this paper is to explore the most significant determinants of financial distress of manufacturing companies in Indonesia and to provide explanations on this issue by using multiple regression models. With Modigliani and Millerโ€™s and Trade-off theories were reviewed to formulate a testable proposition on the determinants of financial distress of manufacturing companies in Indonesia. Multiple regression models were used as a statistical tool to investigate the most significant profitability determinants of manufacturing companies in Indonesia. The Lisrel software was used to analyze 300 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. It was found that institutional ownership, firm size, profitability, and board independence as variables had a positive relationship in an effort to avoid financial distress. Meanwhile, the board size variable had an insignificant positive relationship. The findings are consistent with the pecking order and financial agency theory which helps in understanding the application of financial distress studies for manufacturing companies in Indonesia.

Investment opportunity set, institutional ownership, family ownership and funding policy Pages 2201-2214 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Khoirul Hikmah, Tulus Haryono, Djuminah Djuminah, Rifqi Syarif Nasrulloh

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2019.7.032

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Investment Opportunity Set, Institutional Ownership, Family Ownership, Funding Policy

Abstract:
This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of the Investment Opportunity Set (IOS) on the corporation funding policies and also finds out whether or not the institutional ownership moderates the role of family ownership on IOS and company funding policies. The population includes all go-public companies listed on the IDX over the period 2008-2016. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling method. The processing data used regression equations with panel data models and Eviews analysis tools. The results show that IOS had a negative effect on the funding policies. This makes the company with a lower debt to equity ratio on its capital structure policy to use the equity financing to reduce the agency problems. Institutional ownership moderates the influence of IOS on the funding policies. This proves that the institutional ownership balances need to replace the role of debt in monitoring the managers and reducing the agency problems in the company. The family ownership does not moderate the influence of IOS on the funding policies because in the ownership, the family tends to take opportunities for the personal interests and form a weak ownership structure so that the agency problems rises and disrupts the company performance.

Authors: Sugeng Wahyudi, Hasanudin Hasanudin, Irene Rini Demi Pangestutia

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2020.5.010

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Asset allocation, Turnover, Board size, Institutional ownership, Diversification, Portfolio, Performance

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the ability to determine the weight of securities of stocks, bonds, mutual funds and deposits in the implementation of employer pension funds in Indonesia based on variables of asset allocation, portfolio turnover, board size, institutional ownership and diversification of the portfolio performance. The data collection method used was non-participant observation. By using a data pooling technique which combined time series data over period 2016-2018 and a cross section data of 64 Employer Pension Funds (DPPK, Employer Pension Funds), 192 observed analysis units were obtained. The effect of the variables was analyzed by using Structural Equation Modeling (path) as the analysis technique and using LISREL (Linear Structural Relationships) program. The test results showed that the asset allocation strategy had a positive effect on the investment portfolio performance. The same also happened to institutional ownership and diversification variables which also had a positive and significant effect on the investment portfolio performance. However, this study showed that there was no positive effect on the board size and portfolio turnover on the investment portfolio performance. Theoretical and managerial implications and also the limitations of this study are discussed at the end of this study.

Investigating the relationship between financial distress and investment efficiency of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange Pages 167-176 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Mehdi Vosoughi, Hojat Derakhshan, Mohammad Alipour

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2016.3.003

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Financial distress, Investment efficiency, Management ownership, Institutional ownership

Abstract:
The present study is aimed at investigating the relationship between financial distress and investment efficiency of companies listed in the Tehran Stock Exchange (with emphasis on the role of ownership type). To calculate investment efficiency, the Richardsonโ€™s model (2006) [Richardson, S. (2006). Over-investment of free cash flow. Review of Accounting Studies, 11(2-3), 159-189.] was employed. The aim of the present study is applied and its method is correlational- ex post facto. Using the exclusion sampling method and by applying the conditions of selecting the sample, 94 companies were selected from 2008 to 2013. To test the research hypotheses, multiple regression was used. Findings of the research indicate that there was a correlation between financial distress and investment efficiency in companies listed in the Tehran Stock Exchange, and institutional ownership had positive effects on the relationship between financial distress and investment efficiency of companies listed in the Tehran Stock Exchange. Furthermore, management ownership had no effect on the relationship between financial distress and investment efficiency in companies listed in the Tehran Stock Exchange.

The effects of ownership structure on corporate value in Tehran Stock Exchange Pages 1341-1348 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Sohrab Osta, Hossein Naderi

doi 10.5267/j.msl.2012.02.005

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Ownership Structure, Ownership concentration, Institutional Ownership, Corporate value

Abstract:
In the present study, the separate and simultaneous role of concentration and type of ownership on corporate value is investigated. In this study, the ownership structure is classi?ed into four classes: the institutional ownership, the corporate ownership, the management ownership and the foreign ownership. In addition, di?erent attitudes regarding the above ownership are also tested, that is, active monitoring hypothesis and interest convergence hypothesis. Since, in the sample research no information was found about foreign ownership, this type of ownership was not examined. However, in the case of the other ownerships, a separated hypothesis was developed based on various techniques and their in?uence on the corporate value was examined. For each hypothesis, a multiple linear regression model is de?ned based on the dependent variables. Companies listed in securities exchange commission of Iran makes up the statistical community of present study and the sample consists of 90 companies during 2002-2008. Two types of tests, including correlation test and cross multiple regression test are implemented to examine the hypothesis. Generally, the results reflect no signi?cant relationship between the concentration of ownership and the corporate value. The results of the study show that, while there is no relationship between the institutional ownership and management ownership and the corporate value, there is a signi?cant relationship between the corporate ownership and the corporate value.
