A new supply chain management method with one-way time window: A hybrid PSO-SA approach Pages 241-252 PDF Download PDF

doi 10.5267/j.ijiec.2011.09.006

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Metaheuristics, PSO-SA, Simulated Annealing (SA), VRP

Abstract:
In this paper, we study a supply chain problem where a whole seller/producer distributes goods among different retailers. The proposed model of this paper is formulated as a more general and realistic form of traditional vehicle routing problem (VRP). The main advantages of the new proposed model are twofold. First, the time window does not consider any lower bound and second, it treats setup time as separate cost components. The resulted problem is solved using a hybrid of particle swarm optimization and simulated annealing (PSO-SA). The results are compared with other hybrid method, which is a combination of Ant colony and Tabu search. We use some well-known benchmark problems to compare the results of our proposed model with other method. The preliminary results indicate that the proposed model of this paper performs reasonably well.

Disaster relief routing by considering heterogeneous vehicles and reliability of routes using an MADM approach Pages 137-150 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Mohammad Mahdi Nasiri, Shadab ShisheGar

doi 10.5267/j.uscm.2014.5.004

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Multi-attribute decision making, NSGAII, Relief routing, VRP

Abstract:
A crucial issue in humanitarian relief operations is vehicle routing because there are many difficulties in roads that people face when a disaster is occurred. In such circumstances, selecting more reliable routes could help rescue team act more efficacious. Therefore, we propose a mathematical model that maximizes the reliability of selected routes in disaster relief routing process using a multiple attribute decision making (MADM) technique. Furthermore, the proposed model minimizes the total cost that imposed to system. For this reason, the model is a multi-objective vehicle routing problem (VRP). The problem considered here is NP-hard and its objective is to find near optimal solutions, rather than optimal ones, using the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm.

A particle swarm approach to solve vehicle routing problem with uncertain demand: A drug distribution case study Pages 55-64 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Babak Farhang Moghadam, Seyed Mohammad Seyedhosseini

doi 10.5267/j.ijiec.2010.01.005

๐Ÿ”‘ Keywords: Meta-heuristic, PSO, VRP, Taguchi method, Robust Optimization

Abstract:
During the past few years, there have tremendous efforts on improving the cost of logistics using varieties of Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) models. In fact, the recent rise on fuel prices has motivated many to reduce the cost of transportation associated with their business through an improved implementation of VRP systems. We study a specific form of VRP where demand is supposed to be uncertain with unknown distribution. A Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is proposed to solve the VRP and the results are compared with other existing methods. The proposed approach is also used for real world case study of drug distribution and the preliminary results indicate that the method could reduce the unmet demand significantly.
