, Pages 1491-1504 Golam Kabir and Razia Sultana Sumi ![]() |
Abstract: An organization has to make the right decisions in time depending on demand information to enhance the commercial competitive advantage in a constantly fluctuating business environment. Therefore, estimating the demand quantity for the next period most likely appears to be crucial. Manufacturing companies consider forecasting a crucial process for effectively guiding several activities, and research has devoted particular attention to this issue. The objective of the paper is to propose a new forecasting mechanism which is modeled by integrating Fuzzy Delhi Method (FDM) with Artificial Neural Network (ANN) techniques to manage the demand with incomplete information. Artificial neural networks has been applied as it is capable to model complex, nonlinear processes without having to assume the form of the relationship between input and output variables. The effectiveness of the proposed approach to the demand forecasting issue is demonstrated for a 20/25 MVA Distribution Transformer from Energypac Engineering Limited, a leading power engineering company of Bangladesh. Abstract: Bureaucratic corruption is an organizational phenomenon, which faces the trend of countries’ development with serious problems. In spite of all planning and respects of countries to fight against this phenomenon, we are still observing its growth in various aspects of the community. The basic approach emphasized by present study is that it is necessary to establish a corruption prevention system whose central element is social culture and organizational culture rather than relying upon the trends based on punishment after corruption. To perceive the relationship between organizational culture and bureaucratic health of organizations, we used a field approach and selected four governmental organizations namely “governorship”, “municipality”, “traffic police” and “customs to gather the data. We used two questionnaires A and B to gather the data on organizational culture and the relationship between culture and corruption, respectively. Initially, by distributing questionnaire A, we evaluated all four organizations in a manner that two organizations have bureaucratic culture and two organizations with organic culture. Then, questionnaire B was distributed among employees and clients of studied organizations (to acquire realer information on bureaucratic health rate) to study the relationship between the type of organizational culture and bureaucratic health. Research statistical population consists of all employees and clients of bureaucratic organizations in Chabahar province located in south east of Iran. Statistical sample consists of 146 clients and 146 employees of all four studied organizations. The results from data analysis show that there is no significant relationship between organic or mechanic organizational culture and employees’ bureaucratic health. Importance-Performance-Simplicity analysis: Prioritizing IPA matrix attributes from simplicity point of view
, Pages 1631-1638 Alireza Hosseini, Mohsen Jadidi and Mohammad Hossein Abooie ![]() |
Abstract: Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) model is a simple and flexible tool to evaluate the organization’s strengths and weaknesses to implement the necessary resources in an appropriate manner. The primary objective of this research is to present an improved model for IPA (i.e. Importance-Performance-Simplicity Analysis) to assess the simplicity of improvement about each of the attributes lying in the matrix and to prioritize them in each quadrant for improvement. Since the attributes lying in quadrant 2 of IPA are very important for customers and, at the same time, has a low level of perceived performance, this paper suggests that management started improvement of these attributes according to the prioritization. In this model, the attributes are prioritized based on simplicity of changes for management while preserving its simplicity of use. For this purpose, Force Field Analysis (FFA) as a simple and effective tool is used for the IPA model. Finally, an example was presented in order to make the model clear. An empirical study on effects of downsizing on private firms
, Pages 1695-1700 Mansour Ezati Jivan ![]() |
Abstract: Many organizations may reduce on the number of their employees in an attempt to reduce their operating cost and increase efficiency of their units. The workers who normally leave the firms are not believed to be productive for other organizations. On the other hands, there are some side effects on the remaining workers since they may feel they are losing their job securities. As a result, they may have mistrust towards their managers and start working less to pretend that downsizing yields negative consequences. In this paper, we survey on some information technology based organizations where such downsizing incidents have already occurred and analyze whether downsizing could reach its mission, properly or not. The results of this survey indicate that although downsizing can reduce the operating cost, it has some negative impacts on workers as well. Pareto analysis of critical factors affecting technical institution evaluation
, Pages 1701-1706 Victor Gambhir N.C. Wadhwa and Sandeep Grover ![]() |
Abstract: With the change of education policy in 1991, more and more technical institutions are being set up in India. Some of these institutions provide quality education, but others are merely concentrating on quantity. These stakeholders are in a state of confusion about decision to select the best institute for their higher educational studies. Although various agencies including print media provide ranking of these institutions every year, but their results are controversial and biased. In this paper, the authors have made an endeavor to find the critical factors for technical institution evaluation from literature survey. A Pareto analysis has also been performed to find the intensity of these critical factors in evaluation. This will not only help the stake holders in taking right decisions but will also help the management of institutions in benchmarking for identifying the most important critical areas to improve the existing system. This will in turn help Indian economy. DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2012.04.018 Keywords: Critical factors, Technical institution evaluation, Pareto analysis |

Fuzzy logic for pipelines risk assessment
, Pages 1707-1716 Ali Alidoosti, Ali Jamshidi, Siamak Haji Yakhchali, Mohammad Hossein Basiri, Ramin Azizi and Abdolreza Yazdani-Chamzini ![]() |
Abstract: Pipelines systems are identified to be the safest way of transporting oil and natural gas. One of the most important aspects in developing pipeline systems is determining the potential risks that implementers may encounter. Therefore, risk analysis can determine critical risk items to allocate the limited resources and time. Risk Analysis and Management for Critical Asset Protection (RAMCAP) is one of the best methodologies for assessing the security risks. However, the most challenging problem in this method is uncertainty. Therefore, fuzzy set theory is used to model the uncertainty. Thus, Fuzzy RAMCAP is introduced in order to risk analysis and management for pipeline systems. Finally, a notional example from pipeline systems is provided to demonstrate an application of the proposed methodology. , Pages 1819-1838 Afsaneh Mozaffari Hamidreza Karkehabadi, Mahdi Kheyrkhahan and Mosayeb Karami ![]() |
Abstract: The success of each organization depends undoubtedly on the quality of its management and management quality depends on decision quality and information quality on the quality of its measurement and proportion. Therefore, its accuracy and measurement has a key role in the success of the organization and the weakness of performance evaluation and managerial control system can transfer to a barrier for the growth of organization. Performance evaluation systems are now dividable to two traditional group (performance evaluation of an individual across reminding him about his performance) and modern group (developing and improving the capacity of evaluated individual and inclined to achievement of organizational objectives and strategies). One of the most authoritative strategic models in this field is the balanced scorecard (BSC) model in which entire aspects of an organization are dominantly investigated. However, no operational trend has been introduced for utilizing it up to now. In this paper, an operational trend is introduced to apply the foundations of BSC model and multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques. The most important goal of researchers in representation of new structure for creating development and growth capacity and permanent improvement is associated by a kind of providence, such that it can develop desirable organizational and work behaviors towards achieving the objectives and strategies of the organization. In addition, the strategic planning of Islamic Azad university of Semnan was modeled by suggested structure to validate the suggested structure's capacities. The results showed that outputs were more tangible for the personnel of the organization and the results were accepted by the managers of Islamic Azad university of Semnan.
