Abstract: This research aims to fill the research gap with empirical evidence that exists about the impact of blockchain and smart inventory systems on supply chain performance in the retail industry in the UAE. The proposed model is uniquely researched as no prior research explores the link between supply chain performances, blockchain, and smart inventory in prestigious academic journals. A quantitative technique with convenient cluster sampling is used. A descriptive, exploratory, causal and analytical design was applied—a sample size of 303 respondents was used for data analysis through regression and hypothesis with ANOVA. The findings revealed a significant positive impact of blockchain and smart inventory systems on SC performance. Limited construct-based research can be focused on more industries and constructs for future studies. There are numerous chances for businesses to leverage blockchain technology to their advantage over the competition, giving them the chance to strengthen their market position. Managers must carefully consider the qualities of their goods, services, and supply chains to ascertain whether they require or would sufficiently benefit from blockchain. Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating role of operational flexibility between the quality of health information technology and management capability. A cross-sectional study was conducted; data was obtained based on 365 medical staff (medical doctors, nurses, and medical technologists) from public hospitals in the northern region of Jordan; a covenant sample was used. The authors used structural equation modeling to verify the hypotheses. The results reveal that the quality of health information technology has a significant impact on management capability and operational flexibility. Operational flexibility as a partial mediating variable also showed a significant impact on management capability. The study suggests that increasing the quality of health information technology will enhance the management capability and operational flexibility in healthcare organizations and will increase employee loyalty as a vehicle to trigger positive work-related attitudes. This study is one of the very limited studies in the Middle East that examined the role of operational flexibility in the quality of health information technology and employee management capability. Abstract: This study aims to examine the impact of risks from information in the supply chain on the financial performance of enterprises, with the case study in Vietnam, using quantitative research methods, through SEM linear structure model analysis. With 412 samples who are managers of different ranks at enterprises, the study results show that risks from information in the supply chain not only have a direct, reverse impact but also have an indirect impact on financial performance depending on the level of interdependence of businesses. In addition, opportunistic behavior and the degree of interdependence have also been shown to have a reverse impact on the level of cooperation of enterprises. The findings of this study show a contribution both theoretically and practically, demonstrating the inherent negative risks of information in the supply chain to the financial performance of the enterprise. Research has shown the intermediate role of the degree of interdependence in the relationship between the above two factors. Based on the research results, the authors propose several recommendations to improve the financial performance of enterprises. Abstract: Supply chain management has attracted business interest in recent years. This interest is also driven by the development and spread of e-commerce technology. Because e-commerce is a relatively new phenomenon in business, little research has been done on its impact on supply chain relationships. E-commerce allows supply chain management to make collective decisions considering the interests of relationships with diverse and often competitive trading partners. The e-commerce environment is difficult to predict due to the vast availability of information and changing market dynamics. Management can deal with uncertainty more effectively when focusing on administrative partnerships as part of their corporate strategy. This quantitative and qualitative study with e-commerce businesspeople aims to: 1) highlight the strategic and tactical importance of supply chain assessment in e-commerce; and 2) describe future research opportunities in this new multidisciplinary approach. Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ship worthiness and seafarers' skills on improving ship operational performance through minimum service standards. Some early indications found in the field, such as the low performance of ship maintenance by procedures, and the obstacles in implementing the ship maintenance plan due to the inefficiency of the ship's operating schedule. This study uses Path Analysis with Path Coefficients Sub Structure 1 and Sub Structure 2. The test method used for the direct effect is the regression method while the indirect effect is the Sobel test. The number of samples is 80 respondents from national shipping companies, from various types of ships, namely, crew boats, patrol boats, utility boats, supply vessels, and anchor handling towing supply. The results of the study indicate that there is a positive and significant effect of seaworthiness and seafarers' skills on increasing ship operational performance, directly or indirectly through minimum service standards. The minimum service standard variable can mediate the indirect effect of the seafarers' skill and ship worthiness variables on the operational performance of the ship. To meet the growing customer satisfaction as the consequences of tight competition, it is necessary to improve the quality of the fleet where durability, cleanliness of the fleet, and safety facilities in the fleet are expected to provide a high guarantee for safety. Abstract: The objectives of this research are to find the proper measures to improve efficiency of Thai-Lao cross border transportation (R9 route) for Thai shippers and study their performance after implementing the developed measures. This research implements both quantitative and qualitative research, where the population of this research consists of shipper’s groups which transport products via the Thai Lao border located along R9 route. The research tools are questionnaire and structured interview form passed variability and reliability tests. Then the questionnaires are distributed to 3 large size firms (sample size of 316 people) and an in-depth interview with 18 people. This research analyzes gathered data using descriptive analysis, construct validity, structural equation modeling (SEM), path analysis, and content analysis for qualitative data. The analysis results reveal important findings according to each research objective as follows. For the first objective, to improve cross-border transportation, the case study firms should concentrate on three measures as: 1) transportation safety in terms of sound safety control and monitor, increasing rest areas and truck stops including those on pavement or roadside, safety monitoring during transportation, and weather conditions checking; 2) documentation procedure in terms of reducing the procedure steps, IT implementation, and procedure improvement both inbound and outbound; and 3) vehicles management in terms of appropriate resources allocation, facilities availability, and appropriate resources selection. For the second objective, the study of the case study firms’ performance after implementing the developed measures, it reveals benefits in several aspects of 1) cheaper (they can deliver items with lower costs, lower expenses, or lower price than before implementation as well as other competitors); 2) faster (better customers responsiveness, faster delivery and operating than other competitors, and lead time reduction), and 3) better (in operations with less bottlenecks, mistakes, and disruptions manifested in delivery; higher competitiveness and better service quality). To summarize, the implementation of the developed model can help the shippers to increase their capability as well as their competitiveness. Abstract: The consequences of reverse factoring in a supply chain are examined in this article. Reverse factoring occurs when a buying firm offers a reduced short-term borrowing rate to a supplier company in exchange for longer payment terms. From the standpoint of a supplier, this paper investigates the impact of rating changes, interest rate fluctuations, and business cycle position on the cost-benefit trade-off in the SMEs and manufacturing companies. However, the data was collected using a questionnaire. The main result is that changes in critical financial variables like ratings, news alerts and interest rates will shift former win–win circumstances for the supplier dependent on the business cycle into win–lose situations for the supplier. Overall, the reverse factoring results reveal sophisticated trade-offs, necessitating careful consideration in managerial decisions. The role of logistics performance and decreasing of trade competitiveness in ASEAN+3’s manufacturing products
, Pages: 1437-1448 Eddy Renaldi, Sutyastie Soemitro Remi, Budiono and Wawan Hermawan PDF (360K) |

Abstract: ASEAN Countries members plus Japan, South Korea, and China (ASEAN+3’S) logistics performance play a significant role in maintaining and improving their export and import values, depending on the various commodities trade. Meanwhile, during uncertain situations today, the stakeholders need to enhance the capability of import and export activities to improve logistics performance. The study focused on the competitiveness of the manufacturing products traded by these countries. The study used panel data analysis based on the panel data of 11 years (2008-2018) from the 10 ASEAN+3 countries. Export value and Net Comparative Advantage (NCA) index (including net export and trade openness) were used as dependent variables in the two model studies, and logistics performance was the primary variable. The result shows that logistics performance positively affects the export and trade competitiveness models of ASEAN+3’s manufacturing products. The Logistics Performance Index (LPI) provides estimates that suggest that logistics performance has a significant impact on ASEAN + 3 export value (ExpM) and manufacturing trade competitiveness (NCAM). Meanwhile, there are different results of the effects of macroeconomic variables between the model of export value (ExpM) and the NCAM in the manufacturing in ASEAN+3’s. The ExpM model follows the theory that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) increase the competitive value in ASEAN+3 countries. Meanwhile, in the NCAM model, GDP and FDI reduce trade competitiveness because of the high value of ASEAN+3 manufacturing imports. The effect of board nationality and educational diversity on CSR performance: Empirical evidence from Australian companies
, Pages: 1467-1478 Ahmad Shatnawi, Jassim Ahmad Al-Gasawneh, Hasan Mansur and Adel Alresheedi PDF (360K) |
||
Abstract: In this study, the impact of board nationality and educational diversity on corporate social responsibility is investigated, by applying a fixed-effect model, instrumental variable approach (IV-GMM), and dynamic panel model (GMM) estimator to account for endogeneity issues, on a sample of Australian listed firms over 10 years from 2010 to 2020. The study findings reveal a significant positive relationship between board nationality diversity and CSR performance and its-related subdimensions including environmental performance and social performance. Furthermore, we find that educational diversity is positively and significantly related to CSR performance and environmental performance, though not to social performance. The findings remained robust under the instrumental variable approach and dynamic panel model. Additional tests compare between two groups of firms—those from heavily and less regulated sectors—and find that the former group has more educated directors, but a similar level of nationality diversity is found among both sectors. Although diversity in terms of nationality and education is still modest at best, its effect on CSR performance and its related sub-dimensions is more pronounced within heavily regulated sectors only. This result contends that when board nationality diversity and educational diversity are properly incentivized (with regulating CSR activities, for instance), the board tends to improve the social and environmental activities of the firm. Abstract: To increase finance performance any small company needs to improve its management in supply chain and human competence (response). The main aim of our work is aimed at identifying universal marketing audit tools that could help small businesses to increase efficiency and profitability. A sample of 144 small businesses through a survey were used for research. The study applied the SmartPls program for finding marketing audit tools. Our research showed that supply chain management and response (reaction to feedback from employees or customers) are main tools of marketing audit to help improve a small business. We found that marketing audit has a positive effect on both current market efficiency and current profitability. Results also show that, despite the direct benefits of marketing audit, many small companies in emerging markets do not adopt audit due to lack of marketing knowledge. This study can be a reference for owners of small businesses in emerging markets. We developed novel tools of marketing audit that could help small businesses. This paper is an original contribution to managerial knowledge. DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2022.6.002 Keywords: Marketing audit, Firm Performance, Supply Chain Management, Kazakhstan, Small businesses
