, Pages: 1459-1466 Majed Qabajeh, Dmaithan Almajali, Abdul Rahman Al Natour, Mohammad Alqsass and Hakam Maali PDF (360K) |
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to explore the potential correlation among operational risk and the profitability of Islamic banks in the MENA region. Different measures for profitability were relied upon in previous studies, however, in this article depend on return on assets and return on equity to measure profitability, and efficiency ratio calculated by operating expenses to total assets to measure operational risk. To achieve this objective, the sample comprises 20 Islamic banks from 12 MENA countries, creating panel data for a period of ten years from 2011 to 2020. The analysis was conducted using fixed effect models. The study will analyze and interpret the findings from two financial performance measures, namely, ROA and ROE to get insights into the banks' overall financial situation and their ability to generate profits from their assets and equity. Using one type of operational risk measured by (efficiency ratio) as an independent variable, along with profitability measures by (ROA and ROE) as dependent variables. These measures had a significant negative impact by the operational risk measured by (efficiency ratio). This means when the operational risk increases, this indicates that the management is not controlling the operations of the bank in the best way and inability or failure of the bank's management to effectively utilize the available resources and assets to generate satisfactory profits. This leads to an increase in the operating expenses and hence a decrease in profitability measures. Abstract: The present study aims to assess and scrutinize the impact of market power and revenue diversification on the level of Non-Performing Loans (NPL), which serves as an indicator of banking stability, through profitability during the COVID-19 pandemic. The population of interest includes all non-Sharia commercial banking institutions listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2020 to 2022. A purposive sampling method was employed, resulting in a total of 264 observations. The data analysis was performed using panel data regression with the assistance of EViews version 10 software. The findings of this research reveal a direct positive and significant influence of market power and revenue diversification on bank profitability, as well as a direct negative and significant impact of market power, revenue diversification, and bank profitability on NPL. A noteworthy result derived from this study is the partial mediating role of profitability in the relationship between market power, revenue diversification, and NPL. Consequently, it is concluded that market power and revenue diversification play a pivotal role in enhancing profitability, mitigating credit risk, and ultimately improving banking stability. This study lends support to the non-structural approach of NEIO (New Empirical Industrial Organization), the Competition Fragility theory, and the Product Portfolio Theory. However, it is important to acknowledge the limitations of this research, such as the focus solely on non-Sharia banking institutions due to their distinct characteristics compared to conventional commercial banks, as well as data constraints. Abstract: Voluntary disclosure is viewed as an essential communication tool through which the company's ideas can be promoted to potential stakeholders, which contributes to achieving the company's growth and sustainability. This study came to reveal the reality of voluntary disclosure in the Jordanian industrial companies and its impact on its market value. The descriptive-analytical approach was adopted, where content analysis of the financial reports published by 72 industrial companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange during the period (2016-2022). The study found that the level of disclosure of non-financial items included the aspects of the board of directors, social responsibility, and community policy were high, which reached 56%, compared to the level of disclosure of financial items, which reached 43%. This indicates that companies pay more attention to disclosing non-financial items than financial items. In addition, the study indicated that companies with a high level of voluntary disclosure have a better market value compared to those companies that have not disclosed or have a lower level of disclosure. Moreover, increasing voluntary disclosure of strategic information, financial information, and non-financial information increases the market-to-book value, because voluntary disclosure enhances the information available to investors about shares, which in turn improves the market value. Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of supply chain management methods on competitive advantage in Saudi Arabian manufacturing firms, with a particular emphasis on the function of information sharing quality as a moderating variable. The data received from a sample of Saudi manufacturing enterprises were analyzed using a structural equation modelling technique. According to the findings, customer relationships, the level of information sharing, and strategic supplier partnerships all have strong beneficial impacts on competitive advantage. However, the influence of information sharing quality alone on competitive advantage was shown to be statistically negligible. These results emphasize the necessity of developing strong customer relationships, encouraging effective information exchange procedures, and creating strategic collaborations with suppliers to gain a competitive edge. The research adds to the current literature by providing insights unique to Saudi Arabian industrial firms. The results are important for managers and decision-makers developing competitive supply chain management strategies. Future studies may investigate other factors and dimensions, as well as perform longitudinal studies, to better understand the structures of supply chain management and competitive advantage in the Saudi context. Investigating the relationship between information quality, system quality, service quality, and supply chain performance in the manufacturing sector of Saudi Arabia: An empirical study
, Pages: 1589-1598 Mohammad Kanan PDF (360K) |
Abstract: This research investigates the links between information quality, service quality, system quality, and supply chain performance in Saudi Arabia's manufacturing sector. The goal is to provide insights into the elements that impact supply chain outcomes and to identify critical performance drivers. Data was acquired from a sample of manufacturing organizations, and the correlations were analyzed using a structural equation modeling technique. Information quality, service quality, and supply chain performance are all shown to have substantial positive correlations. Higher levels of information quality and service quality relate to enhanced supply chain performance in the manufacturing sector. However, system quality was shown to have a comparatively smaller influence on supply chain performance, suggesting that investments in information management systems and service delivery methods may offer higher returns. The reliability and validity of the measuring scales employed in this research were evaluated and determined to be strong, assuring the precision and consistency of the findings. These results add to the current research by identifying the unique elements that influence supply chain performance in Saudi Arabia's manufacturing sector. The study has many implications for practitioners in the manufacturing sector as it discusses the significance of investing in information management systems, providing high-quality services, and continually evaluating and improving supply chain performance. Abstract: The epidemic of the COVID-19 has spread rapidly worldwide. This phenomenon has changed people's lifestyles as well as business activities. Many businesses are unable to operate normally, which is caused /or affected by supply chain disruption. Therefore, supply chain resilience after the COVID-19 pandemic is essential to maintaining the liquidity of businesses and increasing supply chain efficiency. This research aimed to examine factors influencing supply chain resilience and construct a structural equation model for supply chain resilience after the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand's industries. A research framework was developed according to previous literature in the context of supply chain resilience. Five constructs, namely Technology, Flexibility, Collaboration, Agility, and Supply chain resilience, with seven hypotheses were established. A questionnaire survey was developed from the research framework and previous literature. Then, the validity and reliability test of the questionnaire were performed with the Index of Item Objective Congruence (IOC) technique and Cronbach’s alpha, respectively. The data was obtained from 426 business organizations in both the industrial and service industry in Thailand. The structural equation model (SEM) technique was conducted to examine the relationship between constructs. Abstract: The objective of this study was to showcase the influence of Business Intelligence (BI) tools, such as Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, Data Mining (DM), Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), and Document Management Systems (DMS), on maintaining the quality of financial reports in Jordanian commercial banks listed on the Amman Stock Exchange. Two approaches were employed to achieve the research objectives: a descriptive-analytical approach involving the development of a questionnaire to gather primary data on the independent variables associated with BI tools (OLAP, ETL, DM, RDBMS, DMS), and an applied approach to evaluate the dependent variable represented by the sustainability of financial report quality, utilizing the financial statements of commercial banks listed on the Amman Stock Exchange from (2016 to 2021). Data analysis and hypothesis testing were conducted using statistical software (SPSS) through multiple regression analysis. The results of the statistical data analysis and input from the research community indicated that the sustainability of financial report quality, as a valuable asset for banks, relies on the utilization of Business Intelligence tools. IT professionals in commercial banks perceive a statistically significant impact of BI tools on maintaining the quality of financial reports. Consequently, the management of commercial banks listed on the Amman Stock Exchange should prioritize the effective utilization of Business Intelligence tools, as their potential lies in aiding the accounting process to achieve its objectives, which ultimately contribute to the sustainability of financial reports. By employing these tools accurately and efficiently in accounting practices, all stages of the accounting process can be influenced, enabling the transformation of available data into information that benefits decision-makers both internally and externally within the banking environment. Can the Arab’s natural gas secure the Europeans’ gas requirements? the case of liquified natural gas (LNG)
, Pages: 1677-1684 Abdulkarim Ali Dahan and Rasha A. Altheeb PDF (360K) |
Abstract: This article examines the possibility of answering the question” can the Arab’s natural gas secure the gas requirements in Europe? “To answer the question, an economic analysis of natural gas was conducted to examine reserve, supply, demand, and international trade first. Second, an economic model to examine distances and transportation costs, for transferring goods from various points of supply to various points of demand, was adopted. The North-West Corner model approach, a QM for Windows-based economic strategy to solve the transportation model problem structure in linear programming, has been used in this regard. Our findings demonstrate that the model is suitable for application since it provides the least distances and the least transportation costs compared to other alternatives. The model estimated that a cost of $309.41 is required to transfer one MMBtu of LNG from origins to final destinations. A decrease of $34.304/MMBtu, 10%, compared to $343.714 /MMBtu. It is concluded that the Arab’s gas could fulfil gas requirements in Europe, and mutual benefit can be accomplished for both parties. European countries will benefit from acquiring new places with less distances and lower delivery costs, and Arab countries would have the chance to get new consumers and play a role in the market given their collective gas reserves and their advantageous strategic locations. Abstract: The article aims at investigating whether audit quality impacts the relationship between ownership structure and dividends in companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE). The article is constructed on the analysis of time-series–cross-section (TSCS) (Panel Data). The study sample comprises 34 companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange between 2016 and 2021. The study sample’s content of the financial reports is analyzed to attain appropriate data for the study. The Findings indicate that family ownership and ownership of board members negatively impact dividends. In contrast, institutional ownership and concentrated ownership positively impact dividends, as no effect of foreign ownership is found on dividends. By introducing audit quality as a modified variable on the relationship between ownership structure and dividends, the findings demonstrate that audit quality positively enhances and strengthens this relationship. This article with its results is of great significance to future stockholders and shareholders, as they help in selecting companies capable of distributing higher dividends than other companies and achieving satisfactory investment returns. The findings of the study also focus on the significance of audit quality as a guarantor for regulating the relationship between forms of ownership structure and the distribution of dividends. This study is regarded among the little research investigating the factors that would impact the relationship between ownership structure and dividends. This article plays a key role in bridging the research gap related to the lack of studies dealing with the relationship between ownership structure and dividends in emerging markets. Abstract: In a complex digital era, innovative supply chain management is the key to success in overcoming logistical challenges. By implementing the latest technology, adopting innovative strategies, and managing risk well, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can improve supply chain efficiency and effectiveness. The main driver of innovation is leadership in the supply chain. The supply chain network views transformational leadership and innovation as a source of competitive advantage. This study attempts to examine the direct and indirect relationship between supply chain transformational leadership, supply chain innovation performance, and satisfaction with supply chain outcomes. The main objective of this study is to analyze the mediating effect of supply chain innovation performance on the effect of supply chain transformational leadership on supply chain outcomes. The study uses structural equation modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS 3.0 software where primary data are obtained through a survey by distributing questionnaires. Respondents from this study were 507 leaders of MSMEs who were included in the purposive sampling criteria. The results of the instrument scale test used in this study met the standards of validity and reliability analysis. The results of the regression analysis of this study indicate that supply chain transformational leadership had a significant and positive effect on satisfaction of supply chain outcomes. Supply chain transformational leadership also maintained a significant and positive effect on supply chain innovation performance. Moreover, supply chain innovation performance provided a significant and positive effect on supply chain outcomes. There was also a partial support in examining the effect of mediating variables on supply chain innovation performance on the positive effect of chain transformational leadership. The moderating impact of cloud computing on the relationship between the reliability of accounting information systems and credit granting decisions in Jordanian banks
, Pages: 1811-1820 Thaer Ahmad Abutaber PDF (360K) |
Abstract: The study explored trust in the accounting information system and tested its compatibility with the credit granting decision level. The study also hypothesized that whenever the confidence in the current accounting information system is high, the level of the decision to grant credit is high, and vice versa. To test this assumption, the study used partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). This method is usually preferred when the goal of the research is to develop theory and explain variance or predict structures. The survey design approach was adopted in the commercial banks in Jordan, where 225 valid questionnaires were retrieved for statistical analysis. The results demonstrate a direct and significant effect on GCD in commercial banks. Moreover, the results of this paper show that cloud computing (CC) mediates the relationship between the independent variable (Accounting Information System Trust (AIS-Trust) with the dependent variable (Grant Credit Decision (GCD)). Abstract: This study explores the role of taxation and customs strategies in promoting sustainable design and environmental responsibility in supply chain management. The research examines their direct effects on sustainable and environmental responsibility in Jordan, as well as the moderating influence of socioeconomic factors. It also investigates the mediating effect of sustainable practices adoption. Quantitative analysis using Smart PLS4 software was conducted. The results highlight the positive influence of taxation strategies on sustainable and environmental responsibility. Effective taxation strategies contribute to a stronger commitment to sustainable practices and environmental concerns within supply chains. Similarly, customs strategies positively influence sustainable and environmental responsibility, demonstrating that efficient customs management aligns with sustainable practices. In addition, socioeconomic factors were identified as significant moderators. The relationship between taxation strategies and sustainable responsibility, as well as environmental responsibility, varied based on the socioeconomic context. This suggests that the effectiveness of these strategies depends on the specific circumstances in which organizations operate. Furthermore, sustainable practices adoption was found to moderate the relationship between taxation and environmental strategies, and sustainable responsibility. This indicates that the successful implementation of sustainable practices enhances the impact of taxation and environmental strategies in promoting sustainability within the supply chain. This paper emphasizes the importance of developing and implementing effective taxation and customs policies that align with sustainable practices. Organizations should consider the influence of socioeconomic factors and prioritize the sustainable practices adoption to maximize the impact of these strategies. The findings provide valuable insights for strategic decision-making and encourage businesses to integrate sustainability into their supply chain management, contributing to environmental conservation and long-term success. ||
Abstract: This study aimed to explore the approaches for transforming Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) into high-value markets, focusing on constructing a structural equation model of guidelines for the development of small and medium enterprises into high-value markets. The conceptual research framework consisted of one exogenous latent variable, the Value Discovery element, combined with the four endogenous latent variables, Value Development, Value Communication, Value Distribution, and Value Experiences. The study utilized mixed-methodology research, including qualitative research through in-depth interviews with nine experts, a focus group discussion with 11 successful entrepreneurs, and quantitative research through a survey of 500 SMEs in Thailand. The results revealed that SMEs operating in high-value markets are divided into tangible and intangible products, representing 250 respondents from each group. The five elements of the guidelines for the development of small and medium enterprises into high-value markets were found to be of high importance both overall and in each element. The developed SEM model was consistent with the empirical data of five elements with 27 observed variable factors. Furthermore, the hypothesis test results for analyzing the causal influence between latent variables in the SEM model revealed that all six hypotheses were supported at the 0.001 level of statistical significance. The value of the study is beneficial for SMEs who target to do business in high-value markets and can improve their competitiveness, develop unique value propositions, and provide better customer experiences. Abstract: The study examines whether audit committee (AC) characteristics influence firm performance, and whether this relationship is moderated by board of director’s (BOD) ownership. The sample is listed manufacturing firms in Jordan. AC characteristics, as an indicator of corporate governance mechanism, include its size, meeting frequency, independence, and experience. Firm performance is proxied by return on assets (ROA). Thirty firms are included in the sample. Data are collected from 2015 to 2021 for a total of 210 observations. The first model indicates that AC meetings and independence positively and significantly influence firm performance. On the other hand, AC size is not a significant predictor of firm performance. The second model shows that the interaction effects (AC size, AC independence, and AC experience) are significant and positive on firm performance. The results provide insights on how to improve AC effectiveness so as to improve the performance of listed manufacturing firms in Jordan. They also suggest the significance of BOD ownership in enhancing internal corporate governance mechanisms, particularly the AC. Jordanian policy makers must therefore ensure the effectiveness of these mechanisms, especially AC, through relevant regulations and recommendations. Abstract: This research examines the synergistic influence of inventory competition, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and digital marketing intensity on quality improvement decisions within contemporary supply chains. With a focus on enhancing product and service quality, we investigate the intricate relationships among these variables. A quantitative approach involving 380 supply chain professionals reveals that heightened inventory competition, increased AI adoption, and robust digital marketing significantly contribute to quality enhancement initiatives. The study builds upon prior research by empirically validating these connections and offers practical insights for supply chain practitioners. The findings underscore the strategic imperative of organizations to strategically balance these factors to optimize their quality management strategies, fostering customer satisfaction and competitiveness. While offering valuable contributions, the study acknowledges limitations in terms of self-reported data and a specific respondent group. Future research could extend this investigation to diverse industries and geographical contexts. In the end, this study sheds light on the complex interplay that exists between inventory competition, the use of AI, digital marketing, and judgments about quality improvement. As a result, a road map has been provided for efficient quality management of supply chains in the digital age.
