Business analysis in the times of COVID-19: Empirical testing of the contemporary academic findings
, Pages: 1-10 Slobodan Adžić and Jarrah Al-Mansour PDF (288 K) |
||
Abstract:
The pandemic of the coronavirus known as ‘COVID-19’ has spread rapidly across the globe, resulting in a worldwide economic recession. Although global efforts are in place to combat the virus, it continues to spread on a massive scale. This is not just a medical crisis; rather, it is a business crisis as well. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to develop a research scale that could be used to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on business. We adopted a scale variables approach that is generated from topics covered in the papers of leading academic business journals to form the basis of our analysis. We exposed the scale to qualitative and quantitative testing and concluded that it is reliable for research on the negative effects of COVID-19 on enterprises. The scale was used to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 on businesses in two countries, namely Serbia and Kuwait, to represent two different continents. The results of this research indicate that the influence of this coronavirus is equally devastating in both countries, Kuwait with its otherwise good economic conditions and Serbia with relatively poor ones. The findings of the research are beneficial for both academics in producing quality output papers, as well as their support to managers in various business industries in their fight against coronavirus to keep their businesses sustainable.

, Pages: 11-20 Widya Parimita, Dedi Purwana and Usep Suhud PDF (288 K) |
||
Abstract:
This study aims to analyze individual and organizational factors from the perspective of gender amongst millennial employees in creative industries. The populations in this study are employees in the creative industries with sample limited to employee from millennial generation category. Based on these considerations, the sample taken in this study were 202 respondents. The research proves that exogenous variables (ethical behavior of leaders and internal communication) have positive and significant effects for endogenous variables (psychological capital, work attachment, meaning of work) on employees (millennial generation) of the creative industry sector. The results also showed that psychological capital was only determined by the ethical behavior of the leadership, whereas psychological capital was the most dominant variable in determining work engagement. Meanwhile, internal communication provides the most dominant influence on the meaning of work. This research is able to contribute by generating novelty research in the form of literature studies using gender roles. From the gender point of view, millennial employees who are female have the highest value for internal communication, work engagement and meaning of work. Meanwhile, the highest value of psychological capital is dominated by male respondents. Ethical behavior of leaders viewed from a gender perspective has the same value between male and female respondents.

, Pages: 41-48 Thi Thu Suong Huynh PDF (288 K) |
||
Abstract:
This study examines effect of transformational leadership (TFL) on work motivation in Vietnam, through the mediating role of employee emotions (expressed by the effect of leader on employee satisfaction). This paper considers employee motivation using independent and intermediate varia-bles characterizing individuals and organizations. In order to find relationships between the selected variables, and to evaluate the role of the mediator, a technique of Explore Factor Analysis method (EFA) is sued with primary data collected from 286 among 317 employees currently working using regression models and 500 bootstrapping samples in order to quantify the role of the mediator. For the purposes of the analysis, the structural equation modelling (SEM) method was efficiency applied. The quantitative research was conducted in SMEs selected by stratification technique. In both cases the outcomes are significantly determined by employees’ motivation. This practical model demonstrates an influential relationship between TFL and work motivation. The study provides proof that the relations of transformational leadership have been shown to have a direct indirect influence on employee motivation, in which the mediator is the satisfaction which has direct impact on work motivation. The results of the research show strong evidences for policy makers and enterprises for management at SMEs as well as it contributes to literature review of behavior organization. Findings also strongly show implied solutions which would support for Vietnamese SMEs to improve stable job performance.

Carbon disclosure and carbon performance: Evidence from the UK’s listed companies
, Pages: 117-128 Khaled Alsaifi PDF (288 K) |
||
Abstract:
The rise in carbon disclosure has yet to be matched by evidence and understanding of how carbon disclosure affects a firm’s actual carbon performance? Therefore, this study examines the relationship between voluntary carbon disclosure and the carbon performance of the UK’s listed firms by applying the ‘outside-in’ management perspective. Panel data analysis of UK FTSE350 firms and their carbon disclosures for the period 2007–2015, made on the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) platform, indicates that enhanced carbon disclosure was associated with improved carbon performance in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. Additional analysis found that the carbon disclosure-carbon performance relationship is more pronounced in carbon-intensive industries. Moreover, during the financial crisis period, the relationship of interest is insignificant, however, during the recovery years, improved carbon reporting was associated with lower emissions. This study confirms that carbon disclosure motivates companies and creates a momentum effect for the subsequent reduction in their emissions. Our findings are useful for corporate stakeholders and governmental policymakers who are concerned about the quality and consequences of carbon disclosure.

Modeling passionate decision
, Pages: 139-154 Bilson Simamora PDF (288 K) |
||
Abstract:
Passion has known widely as a factor that influences motivation positively. However, its operationalization in decision-making remains unclear. To fill this gap, the author develops the concept and model of the passionate decision through which one can predict future inclination to a choice. Using university choice as a research context, the data from 350 respondents reveals that the model is robust and has good nomological validity. As expected, the passionate decision can explain 98% of future loyalty. The construct is also able to represent 93% of positive affect, decision confidence, and self-efficacy, usually used as the indicators of decision quality. Decision justifiability and mastery goals contribute positively to the passionate decision, whereas performance-avoidance goals show the adverse contribution, and performance-approach goals show no contribution. This re-search still uses harmonious passion. Further research can use obsessive passion to investigate whether both have the same or different capability in explaining future choice engagement.

Abstract:
The presence of Islamic banking in Indonesia is to provide banking services for Muslim communities who need banks in accordance with sharia (Islamic law). Empirical facts show that the Muslim population using Islamic banks is approximately 14% of the total population. Meanwhile, Islamic banking assets are less than 5% of the total national banking assets. This shows that there are problems in customer loyalty of the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine and explain the direct and indirect effects of the variables of religiosity, service quality, satisfaction, and trust on Islamic bank customer loyalty through a study on Islamic bank customers in the Special Capital Region (DKI) of Jakarta. The paradigm used in this research was quantitative positivist using survey methods in data collection. The population in this study was Islamic bank customers in DKI Jakarta, and the number of samples was 120 with a purposive sampling method. Data analysis was performed by descriptive and inferential analysis using SmartPLS statistical computational tools version 3.3.2. The results of the study indicated that religiosity, service quality, and satisfaction significantly directly affected loyalty. There was not enough evidence to state that trust directly affected the loyalty of Islamic bank customers. In testing the indirect effect, customer satisfaction partially mediated the effect of service quality on loyalty; however, it failed to mediate the effect of religiosity on loyalty. There was not enough evidence to state that trust mediated the effect of religiosity and service quality on customer loyalty of Islamic banks in DKI Jakarta.

Abstract:
Changing consumer purchasing decision behavior is not easy. Consumers are now classified as intelligent consumers who are supported by the development of information and technology. Especially the decision to purchase products that are not widely known in the community, particularly environmentally friendly products or natural products (green products). One of the environmentally friendly products that attract public attention lately is Loloh cemcem brand from Penglipuran Village Bangli. The objectives of this study are a) to explain the effect of hedonic value, brand personality appeal, and attitude towards behavioral intention, and to explain the role of brand personality appeal as a mediator of the relationship between the hedonic value towards attitude and behavioral intention. The study is conducted in all districts in Bali from September 2018 to June 2019. The analysis technique used is path analysis. The research findings show that all variables have positive and significant effects on behavioral intention. However, brand personality appeal only acts as a mediating variable in part of the relationship between hedonic value towards attitude and the relationship between hedonic value towards behavioral intention. It means that there are other variables that play as mediator which are not examined in this study. The results of the analysis are expected to be used as a consideration by the producers of Loloh cemcem of Penglipuran Village Bangli so that they will be able to deal with further competition and the study results can be used as an alternative strategy to implement a green business. In addition, the study results can be used by the government as an input in making policies that encourage the rapid growth of the Balinese local wis-dom industry.

, Pages: 261-270 Manar Reyad Maraqa, Ghassan Issa Al Omari and Mufleh Amin Jarrah PDF (288 K) |
||
Abstract:
The study aims at measuring the availability of knowledge management (KM) infrastructure and its impact on the innovation process and products of Munir Sukhtian Trading Group Company (MSTGC), through the intermediary role of KM mechanisms and technologies. The study tool, which took the form of a questionnaire, was designed to collect the required data from the company under research. The validity and stability of the research tool were both tested. The study community is made up of the MSTGC, and the study sample consisted of the senior and middle management. A group of 101 managers were randomly selected from the sampling unit which consisted of (140) managers, heads and deputy heads of departments, sales supervisors and team leaders at the Head Office of the company in Amman. The study used the descriptive-analytical research method, and found the following most notable findings: high level of information technology (IT) infrastructure and intermediate levels of the rest of the components of KM infrastructure (physical environment, common knowledge, organizational culture, and organizational structure). The innovation process is of a medium level and the same is for KM mechanisms and technologies. As for MSTGC's commercial products, the results show a high level represented by two things: first, value-added products and knowledge-based products. Furthermore, a statistically significant effect was found (α≤0.05) for the KM infrastructure with its components (IT infrastructure, physical environment, common knowledge and organizational structure) on the MSTGC's products. On the other hand, the effect was outwardly in relation to the component of organizational culture. The findings also show that the KM infrastructure had a statistically significant impact on the innovation process and the products through KM mechanisms and technologies. The study presented a set of recommendations, most notably: the need for enhancing and elevating the intermediate levels of KM (physical environment, common knowledge, organizational structure, organizational culture), while maintaining the high levels of IT infrastructure. Also, among the recommendations is the need for maintaining the high levels of value-added and knowledge-based products of MSTGC's in order to remain in competition with the market and enhance the reputation of the company's products among customers. Also recommended is paying more attention to KM infrastructure because of its impact on the innovation process and the company's products.

Abstract:
This study addresses the illegitimate task-related stressor that establishes a threat to the employees’ self-image. The objective of this study is to provide a clear picture on how illegitimate tasks impact on employees’ mind who work in micro informal enterprises. No single study examined this relationship among employees of informal enterprises. An active employee of micro informal enterprises (MIE’s) within Lahore city is the unit of analysis of this study. The questionnaire of the study was sent to 500 employees of informal enterprises. Participants were 425 full-time employees in informal enterprises at various position levels, representing an 85 percent response rate. SPSS 21 and AMOS 16 statistical packages were used to analyze the collected data. Normality of variables was checked with the help of Skewness and Kurtosis scores. To test the hypotheses of this study, structural equation modeling (SEM) was implemented. The analysis comprises confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings of this study show that illegitimate tasks also boost the stress level of employees who work in informal entrepreneurship. Consequently, owners and managers of MIE should organize and design such training programs that increase the level of understanding about assigned tasks.
