Abstract: In this study, the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on Jordanian high school students’ reading habits and attitudes was examined. COVID-19 has indeed affected education systems all over the world; education institutions all over the world were compelled to implement innovative technological approaches so that education could still be delivered to students, fulfilling the academic expectations, while the Sustainable Learning and Education (SLE) ideals are consistently embraced. One of these approaches has been the use of mobile learning applications (MLA). These applications (MLAs) employ some prominent features of mobile apps, to allow students to collaborate and participate in purposeful online learning. Still, the success of any technology is dictated by the acceptance of the user, in this context, the acceptance of students. In other words, student acceptance of MLA will determine the success of MLA. Accordingly, the effect of COVID-19 lockdown on the information behavior of high school students was examined in this study, with MLA being used by these students. Data were gathered from 394 high school students in Jordan. These students were chosen randomly, and they were all mobile phone users. The data covered the 2022–2023 fall term and were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Based on the analyses results: Self-Efficacy and Perceived Compatibility had significant impact on Perceived Performance Expectancy and Perceived Effort Expectancy; Perceived Convenience and Perceived Effort Expectancy had significant impact on Perceived Performance Expectancy; Perceived Enjoyment had significant impact on the Behavioral Intention to use MLA; COVID-19 had significant impact on the Behavioral Intention to use MLA; Perceived Compatibility showed no significant impact on Perceived Enjoyment; and Perceived Effort Expectancy, Perceived Performance Expectancy and Perceived Compatibility showed no significant impact on the Behavioral Intention to use MLA. The outcomes of this study demonstrate a practical indication in support of digital information behavior among high school students in this era. Potential cyberbullying detection in social media platforms based on a multi-task learning framework
, Pages: 25-34 Guo Xingyi and Hamedi Mohd Adnan PDF (650K) |
||
Abstract: The proliferation of online violence has given rise to a spate of malignant incidents, necessitating a renewed focus on the identification of cyberbullying comments. Text classification lies at the heart of efforts to tackle this pernicious problem. The identification of cyberbullying comments presents unique challenges that call for innovative solutions. In contrast to traditional text classification tasks, cyberbullying comments are often accompanied by subtle and arbitrary expressions that can confound even the most sophisticated classification networks, resulting in low recognition accuracy and effectiveness. To address this challenge, a novel approach is proposed that leverages the BERT pre-training model for word embedding to retain the hidden semantic information in the text. Building on this foundation, the BiSRU++ model which combines attentional mechanisms is used to further extract contextual features of comments. A multi-task learning framework is employed for joint training of sentiment analysis and cyberbullying detection to improve the model's classification accuracy and generalization ability. The proposed model is no longer entirely reliant on a sensitive word dictionary, and experimental results demonstrate its ability to better understand semantic information compared to traditional models, facilitating the identification of potential online cyberbullying comments. Abstract: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a frequent condition in which the body's sugar levels are abnormally high for an extended length of time. It is a major cause of death with high mortality rates and the second leading cause of total years lived with disability worldwide. Its seriousness comes from its long-term complications, including nephropathy, retinopathy, and neuropathy leading to kidney failure, poor vision and blindness, and peripheral sensory loss, respectively. Such conditions are life-threatening and affect patients’ quality of life. Therefore, this paper aims to identify the most relevant features in the diagnosis of DM and identify the best classifier that can efficiently diagnose DM based on a set of relevant features. To achieve this, four different feature selection methods have been utilized. Moreover, twelve different classifiers that belong to six learning strategies have been evaluated using two datasets and several evaluation metrics such as Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1-measure, and ROC area. The obtained results revealed that the correlation attribute evaluation method would be the best choice to handle the task of feature selection and ranking for the considered datasets, especially when considering the Accuracy metric. Furthermore, MultiClassClassifier would be the best classifier to handle Diabetes datasets, especially when considering True Positive, precision, and Recall metrics. Abstract: A robust authentication method is needed to protect online user accounts and data from cyber-attacks. Using only passwords is insufficient because they can be easily stolen or cracked. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) increases security by requiring two or more verification factors from the user before granting access to a resource such as an online account or an application. MFA is essential to a strong identity and access management (IAM) policy. This study evaluates and contrasts several MFA methods for online systems, including Microsoft Authenticator, FIDO2 security keys, SMS, voice calls, and biometrics. We assess these methods based on four criteria: security, usability, cost, and compatibility. We discover that only some MFA methods excel across the board. The best MFA method will depend on the organization's and users' specific needs and preferences. Each MFA method has benefits and drawbacks on its own. Based on our analysis, we do, however, make some general observations and recommendations, such as preferring FIDO2 security keys and certificate-based authentication for high-security scenarios, choosing Microsoft Authenticator and biometrics for high-usability scenarios, and avoiding SMS and voice calls for low-security and low-usability scenarios. Abstract: With the digitization of historical databases and endowments, care must be taken when designing the framework for an information system on the web. Because conflicts arise frequently in reality, different data management requirements are necessary for the preservation of waqf property. For the purpose of creating and putting into place historical information systems and endowments for this inheritance, it is necessary to develop an acceptable management plan. An inheritance that is thought to be distinct from customary ones since it is governed by its own law is referred to as waqf, as an example. They typically comprise histories and endowments that need to be protected to ensure sustenance among the population and to ensure they live up to the standards of the community and country. This research was compiled and analyzed to support stakeholders in producing a more practical, focused, and value-delivery framework. The datasets were mapped based on relationships, graph databases, and semantic networks. Moreover, the framework was developed using several data representation models to ensure easier, faster, and more accurate methods of displaying the data. Relationships, graph databases, and semantic networks were used to map the datasets. The design was made available to users, administrators, and managers, with the latter group being in charge of maintaining data control over each entity. The case study was conducted using historical information and waqf from the Nadzir Pangeran Sumedang Indonesia Waqf Foundation (YNWPS) in the Kingdom of Sumedang Larang Indonesia (KSL).` The creation of a web-based information system to keep track of the data in each entity and ensure better preservation of historical genealogical databases and endowments was made simpler by the structured framework design. Abstract: Social media has proven to be quite effective in raising awareness and anti-corruption movements in society. This research aimed to analyze the use of social media Twitter as a means of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in conducting anti-corruption campaigns in Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative content analysis on the KPK's official Twitter account. The data were processed using the NVIVO 12 Plus software to answer research questions. This research revealed that the KPK's Twitter account is quite active in carrying out anti-corruption campaign activities, although in general it is not optimal. It can be seen from the low intensity of communication and limited communication network so that it is considered as less collaborative. Improving the problems is needed by KPK as it must also show good performance so that public trust continues in high condition. However, this research has limitations in looking at all anti-corruption campaigns carried out by the KPK because it only used Twitter as the reference. Therefore, further research is suggested to analyze all KPK social media such as Youtube and Instagram. Abstract: The security and integrity of computer systems and networks highly depend on malware detection. In the realm of malware detection, the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm is a well-liked and successful machine learning algorithm. However, the choice of an acceptable distance metric parameter has a significant impact on the KNN algorithm's performance. This study tries to improve malware detection by adjusting the KNN algorithm's distance metric parameter. The distance metric greatly influences the similarity or dissimilarity between instances in the feature space. The KNN algorithm for malware detection can be more accurate and effective by carefully choosing or modifying the distance metric. This paper analyzes multiple distance metrics, including Minkowski distance, Manhattan distance, and Euclidean distance. These metrics account for the traits of malware samples while capturing various aspects of similarity. The effectiveness of the KNN algorithm is evaluated using the MalMem-2022 malware dataset, and the results are broken down into these three-distance metrics. The experimental findings show that, among the three distance metric parameters, the Euclidean and Minkowski distance metric parameters considerably produced the best outcomes with binary classification. While with multiclass classification, the KNN algorithm has achieved the highest outcomes using Manhattan distance. Abstract: One time series model developed to predict economic data is Spatial Vector Autoregressive with Exogenous Variables (SpVARX). This model can accommodate simultaneously the interrelationships between variables, the impact of exogenous variables, and Inter-regional linkages. However, this model has not adjusted the nonlinearity relationships between variables. The relationship between economic variables is usually not linear. Therefore, we introduce the Threshold Spatial Vector Autoregressive with exogenous variables (TSpVARX). This paper assesses the forecasting performance of TSpVARX and compares it with SpVARX models. We conducted a simulation study by generating 100 times the simulation data with twelve scenarios. We found that the forecasting performance of the TSpVARX model is better than SpVARX when there is a nonlinear relationship between variables. In addition, we find that the forecasting performance of TSpVARX models will improve as the sample size increases. Abstract: Research on human-computer interaction currently focuses on enhancing system usability by establishing an appropriate user interface (UI) that depends on users’ features. Online users typically have different perceptions of their favored interface design depending on their preferences. Thus, those interface preferences could be utilized to recognize online users’ identities. User authentication is another critical issue that should be considered to improve online security mechanisms without compromising usability. This study investigates the feasibility of using UI preferences as evidence of user identity. The proposed method applies to the design preferences of users dealing with online systems (e.g., e-exam and e-banking). These preferences are closely associated with individual characteristics, whether physical, cognitive, psychological, psychomotor, demographic, or experience based. Many design characteristics could be used in online systems; for example, the e-exam interface design may use features such as the font (size, color, and face), the number of questions per page, background color, questions group, timer type, and sound alert. The feasibility evaluation of this study indicated that 96.8% of research participants have variations in their preferences, and each participant kept 94.5% of their design preferences throughout different sessions.
