The population of this study was ASN from 5 agencies and agencies under the Bengkulu city government, namely the Education Office, the Population and Civil Registration Service, the Health Service, the Tourism Office, the Youth and Sports Service. The number of samples was 150 people by convenience sampling method. The research method begins with validity and reliability testing with Confirmatory Factor Analysis. This is followed by an explanation of the statistical descriptions related to the respondent's profile, hypothesis testing using the SEM method by taking into account the goodness of fit test. The results showed that all hypotheses were accepted except the hypothesis of the effect of spiritual leadership on meaningful work by mediating self-transcendence.

Keywords: Spiritual Leadership, Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment, Organizational Citizenship Behavior

Abstract:
Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) has received a great deal of attention among researchers recently given the practical importance and its implication for the organizations. Building on a theoretical framework that links characteristics of leader and perception of individuals and their work settings to organizational commitment (OC) and citizenship behavior, the objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between spiritual leadership, job attitudes, and organizational citizenship behavior among lecturers at Islamic University. A cross-sectional design was used to meet the objectives set. Data were collected through the administration of questionnaires to 170 lecturers from Islamic University in Malang. Data were collected through 5 questionnaires in which participants completed measures of spiritual leadership, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and OCBs. Results showed that one of the seven hypotheses proposed was rejected in this study. The results of structural equation modeling indicated a direct effect between spiritual leadership and OCB, and an indirect effect of organizational commitment on the relationship between spiritual leadership and job satisfaction toward OCB. The implications of these findings, as well as directions for future research, are addressed.

Keywords: Spiritual leadership, Work engagement, Organizational commitment, Employee well-being, Smart PLS, Workplace spirituality

Abstract:
This study explores how spiritual leadership through its effects on individuals’ spiritual well-being enhances employee engagement and augments employees’ organizational commitment. The research conducted a general survey of 207 millennial employees in China, which was tested using partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modeling. The results suggest that employee engagement was significantly influenced by spiritual leadership. In addition, the results demonstrate that organizational commitment was influenced by the sequential intervening effects of employee well-being and work engagement. Both the explained variance (R2) and the effect size of exogenous variables on endogenous variables (ƒ2) showed moderate-to-high effects, supporting the predictive ability of this PLS spiritual leadership model. This study suggests that young workers’ engagement and commitment to their work and organizations are roused when the organization and its leaders satisfy workers’ higher-order humanistic needs. This is accomplished when employees’ socio-psychological resources, such as spiritual well-being, are enhanced through spiritual leadership, which can be augmented by organizational climates that embrace young workers’ “whole” selves. This study expands our understanding of the role that spiritual leadership plays in not only motivating organizational commitment but, more importantly, in engaging employees in their work roles.

Spiritual leadership and job burnout: Mediating effects of employee well-being and life satisfaction Pages 1257-1268 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: William D. Hunsaker

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2019.4.016

Keywords: Spiritual leadership, Employee well-being, Life satisfaction, Job burnout, Job engagement, Workplace spirituality

Abstract:
Life satisfaction is an emerging intervening mechanism to explain the effect of work experiences on organizational performance. However, the mechanism has been largely ignored in the management field. The results of this study increase our understanding of how an organizational culture that embraces spiritual leadership and engages the spiritual well-being and life satisfaction needs of em-ployees can help alleviate the symptoms of job burnout. The purpose of this study was to examine how life satisfaction, working in combination with spiritual well-being, influences the relationship between spiritual leadership and job burnout. This study was an explanatory research exploration of the causal relationship between spiritual leadership and job burnout. Research results confirmed that supervisory support, as measured through spiritual leadership, inversely influenced job burnout, as measured through worker exhaustion. Additionally, results revealed that the intervening, serial ef-fect of spiritual well-being and life satisfaction on job burnout was significant. Moreover, results revealed that employees’ life satisfaction fully mediated the relationship with employee vigor while partially mediating that with employee exhaustion.

Abstract:
This paper presents an empirical investigation on the effects of spiritual leadership components on organizational learning capacity for a case study of Payame Noor University, Iran. The proposed study uses a standard questionnaire for measuring spirituality leadership proposed by Fry (2003) [Fry, L. W. (2003). Toward a theory of spiritual leadership. The leadership quarterly, 14(6), 693-727.] and for measuring the impact of organizational learning capacity, the proposed study uses another questionnaire proposed by Teo et al. (2006) [Teo, H. H., Wang, X., Wei, K. K., Sia, C. L., & Lee, M. K. (2006). Organizational learning capacity and attitude toward complex technological innovations: an empirical study. Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 57(2), 264-279.]. The results of our survey have indicated that all components of spiritual leadership, except love and altruism as meaningful, influence spirituality leadership, significantly.
