The role of human resource management practices on organizational innovation: The importance of innovation driven human resource practices Pages 241-250 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Ibrahim Tanko Gampine, Aline Batieno

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2023.6.003

Keywords: Human Resource Practices, Dynamic Capability Theory, Organizational Innovation, Innovation-driven HRM Practices

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to propose a bundle of HRM practices. Specifically, this study segments HRM practices in non-overlapping practices to examine their role in organizational innovation. The methodological approach is a quantitative approach using a convenient sampling technique to collect valid data of 126 service sector employees across five sales and service centers. The findings of this study reveal that both commitment and innovation driven HRM practices positively impact organizational innovation. Meanwhile, the results have shown that the High Performance Work System does not impact organizational innovation. Thus, this study argues that to confront the challenges associated with an ever-evolving nature of organizations, top management must use integrative HRM strategies that can yield a cumulative effect in driving organizational innovation.

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2024.6.012

Keywords: Total quality management, Entrepreneurial orientation, Organizational innovation, Competitive advantage, Organizational performance, SmartPLS 4, Large Saudi industrial companies

Abstract:
The study aimed to know the positive impact of TQM, EO, and OI on OP, in addition to the indirect impact of TQM, EO, and OI on OP when using CA as an intermediary variable. The study sample consisted of all (307) employees in senior and middle departments working in total quality. Random sampling was the sampling technique strategy used in this study. For the measurements in this investigation, a closed questionnaire from previous research was used. The primary data analysis technique in this study was to evaluate the measurement model and structural model using SmartPLS (4.01). The discriminant and convergent validity of the measurement model was assessed. The results of the study show that in addition to having a direct and positive effect on OP, TQM, EO and OI also have an indirect and positive effect on OP when CA is used as a mediating variable. According to the study, OI, TQM, and EO should receive equal attention from major local industrial enterprises operating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As one of the most important management strategies for advancing management thought, large local Saudi industrial companies should also implement and ensure the success of a management program. Comprehensive quality and pioneering orientation. These strategies have been proven to be successful in helping organizations solve problems related to productivity or service quality.

Unravelling the HRM practices and performance link in Malaysian SMEs: The role of organizational innovation Pages 1111-1120 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Nazlina Zakaria, Francis Chuah Chin Wei, Nor Azimah Chew Abdullah, Rushami Zien Yusoff

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2020.11.028

Keywords: Human Resource Management Practices, Organizational Innovation, Organizational Performance, Small and Medium Enterprises

Abstract:
Many studies have focused on direct link between HRM practices and organizational performance. There is a strong relationship between these two variables that driven further research to identify the mechanism through which such relationship exists. Following resource-based view (RBV), the aim of this research was to investigate the indirect effect of organizational innovation on HRM practices-performance linkage. Data was collected from owners/managers of manufacturing SMEs in West Malaysia. 331 (60.5%) distributed questionnaires were received and analyzed through PLS-SEM. Out of six hypotheses on mediation, only one hypothesis was rejected. The findings strongly supported the RBV theory when organizational innovation significantly mediated the relationship. These results clearly indicate that organizational innovation plays an intermediate role between HRM practices (i.e. communication and information sharing, compensation, selection, performance appraisal, and training and development) and organizational performance of SMEs.

Keywords: Product innovation, Process innovation, Marketing innovation, Organizational innovation, Competitive advantage, SMEs

Abstract:
This paper investigates the effects of different dimensions of innovation on the competitive advantage of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The main dimensions of the innovation retained in this study are related to different types of innovation, innovation activities, sources of internal and external information, and public support for innovation. In this study, we rely on the principal component analysis of innovation applied to a sample of 231 Tunisian SMEs. The results show that product innovation, organizational innovation and innovation activities were the key variables for enhancing the competitive advantage of SMEs. In contrast, external sources of information have no effects on the SMEs competitive advantage. The originality of this research is to provide a multidimensional framework of the effects of innovation on the competitive position of SMEs.
