Evaluating women’s happiness levels with ARASsort: The case of Türkiye Pages 707-726 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Semiha Bal, Gül Tekin Temur, Sait Gül

DOI: 10.5267/j.dsl.2025.3.009

Keywords: ARASsort, Happiness, Life satisfaction, Multiple attribute sorting, Women’s happiness

Abstract:
The happiness levels of women exhibit variations attributable to a myriad of factors, encompassing economic, social, cultural, and demographic variables. Numerous governments incorporate the measurement of happiness levels as part of life-satisfaction analyses; nonetheless, these analyses lack a comprehensive framework for predicting happiness levels over specific periods. Notably, in developing countries, women confront the adverse consequences of economic, social, cultural, and demographic determinants to a greater extent than men. Paradoxically, they remain significantly underrepresented in both academic and industrial domains. In light of this, the primary objective of this study is to conduct an in-depth analysis of happiness levels and their underlying determinants from a gender-oriented perspective. Therefore, the pertinent literature has not dedicated a systematic approach to classify and forecast the happiness of women. The present paper initiates by elucidating the factors influencing women's perceptions of happiness through a comprehensive review of the existing literature. Then, a multiple attribute decision-making algorithm-based sorting methodology, ARASsort, is utilized to evaluate how women’s happiness levels are affected by life satisfaction components in a developing country, Türkiye. The selection of ARASsort is based on its performance over other traditional sorting approaches in terms of time and effort attachment. Various factors affecting the happiness levels of women in different cities in the country sample were discussed and analyzed in detail in accordance with the main findings of the OECD Better Life Index (2020), through representative data selected from TÜİK's life satisfaction dataset.

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2020.9.040

Keywords: Experience Quality, Perceived Value, Happiness, Tourist Satisfaction, Behavioral Intention

Abstract:
This research aims at examining and determining the effect of experience quality on tourists’ behavioral intention either directly or by perceived value, happiness, and tourist satisfaction. The sample in this research includes 227 tourists visiting Dodola Island using purposive sampling technique. The analytical method to test the hypothesis in this research is SEM-PLS. The results show that Experience Quality, Tourist Satisfaction, and Happiness had positive and significant effects on Tourists’ Behavior Intention. Meanwhile, Perceived value did not have any significant effect on Tourist Behavioral Intention as Perceived Value was not able to act as a mediator on the effect of Experience Quality on Behavioral Intention. On the other hand, Perceived Value variable had a positive and significant effect on Tourist Satisfaction. Therefore, the increase in Tourist Satisfaction sourced from Perceived Value could affect behavioral intention. The results of further research also show that Tourist Satisfaction and Happiness could partially mediate the effect of Experience Quality on Behavioral Intention.

The study found that existence needs, growth needs and needs of association participation can mostly explain the model which remarkably contribute to the literature of life satisfaction and happiness. In addition, the needs for association participation and life satisfaction positively affect people’s life happiness. In order to improve the living standards of local people, the government should clearly understand what residents really target to in life and fundamental demands of survive and self-development should be carefully considered and supported by the local authority and private organizations.

Abstract:
Happiness is an ideal condition needed by everyone. In the real life, happiness comes not only from the harmony in the home but also from the exciting environment or atmosphere outside the home, such as impulse buying. When someone makes impulse buying, she could feel the happiness be-cause she gets something she wants. This means that when someone makes a purchase, she will experience happiness. This study aimed to examine the variables that affect impulse buying which may also affect the happiness. It is assumed that the experience and the pleasant shopping atmosphere affect the impulse buying and, as a result, the impulse buying affects happiness. The samples in this study were 150 women making purchases of fashion products at malls in Surabaya. The hypothesis testing was conducted by using Structural Equation Modelling. The test results indicated the hypothesis 1 stating that the experiential marketing influenced the impulse buying and hypothesis 2 stating that the shopping enjoyment affected the impulse buying were accepted. Further, hypothesis 3 were also accepted, stating that the impulse buying influenced happiness.

Abstract:
This paper presents a social work study on relationship between exogenous components including monthly income, family relationship and physical health and endogenous variables including subjective happiness scale (SHS), satisfaction with life scale (SWLS) and happiness. The proposed study designs a questionnaire and distributes it among 254 employees of private banks in city of Tehran, Iran during the year of 2012. Cronbach & apos; s Alpha and Dillon-Goldstein & apos; s Rho both are well above 0.70, for SHS and SWLS and Eigenvalue for both components were greater than one. T-student values for all components were greater than 1.96, which means they are meaningful. Mean Communalities (Ave) calculated for both Latent Variables were greater than 0.50. The results of investigating various questions of the survey indicate that while healthcare is the most important factor on happiness, there is a positive and meaningful relationship between income and family relationships and happiness.

A study on effects of pre-marriage relationship on long-term marital status Pages 113-118 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Seyed Esmael Mosavi, Mohammad Reza Iravani

DOI: 10.5267/j.msl.2011.09.016

Keywords: Happiness, Marriage, Pre-marriage relationship

Abstract:
Marriage is one of the most important events of people & apos; s lives and when it happens, it could have both positive and negative consequences. There are different types of marriage such as traditional and modern ones. In traditional marriage, there are some marriage arrangements where man and woman can meet and talk for a short time and in case both parties are interested, marriage is initiated. There is also another type of marriage where girl and boy meet each other for a while, in some events, they may have some limited or unlimited relationships, and once they are interested in each other, they may marry each other. This relatively new type of marriage is popular in many western countries but it is still a controversial type of marriage in eastern countries. In this paper, we perform an empirical study on the effect of pre-marriage relationship on long-term marital status. The results indicate that pre-marriage relationship can reduce after marriage conflicts. The people who had pre-marriage had less aggressive behavior compared with the people who did not.
