The aim of this study is to test the influence of the board's gender diversity on firm value through sustainability report disclosure. The research also examines the effect of industry profile in moderating the board's gender diversity relationship with sustainability report disclosure and the moderation of sustainable investment practices in the relationship between sustainability report disclosure and firm value. The testing uses panel data regression to analyze 306 sample data from non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange that comply with the sample selection criteria. The research findings prove that board gender diversity is able to increase firm value because investors view the presence of female board members as reflecting a good corporate governance mechanism. This research also proves that the presence of women board members reduces the level of sustainability report disclosure. The effect of board gender diversity on sustainability report disclosure is reduced in high-profile companies. High-profile companies experience strong pressure to make disclosures of activities in which environmental and social impacts are transparent. Conversely, this study cannot demonstrate a mediating role of sustainability report disclosure on the effect of board gender diversity on increasing firm value. The interaction effect of sustainable investment practices is also not significant in this study. The research findings provide an understanding of board gender diversity, sustainability report disclosure, and firm value within the multi-theoretical framework of agency theory, stakeholder theory, and social role theory.

This study examined the effect of board diversity on the financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. The study also examined the relationship between board independence and financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. For the purpose of this study, the proxy for financial performance is profit margin while the proxies for board diversity and board independence are the ratio of female directors to total board size and ratio of non-executive directors to total board size, respectively. The data for the study were sourced from the annual reports of 10 listed deposit money banks in Nigeria from 2008 to 2017. The data were analyzed using pooled Ordinary Least Square regression. The results show that the coefficient of board diversity was positively signed and statistically significant at 5% (β=0.34, ρ=0.02); the coefficient of board independence was positively signed and statistically significant at 5% (β= 0.11, ρ=0.02). The study concludes that both gender diversity and board independence positively affect the financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. Therefore, the study recommends that deposit money banks should encourage appointment of qualified female directors on the board. In addition, deposit money banks should ensure the independence of the board by appointing independent non-executive director who are well experienced in bank management.

Reflecting investor expectations, most prior corporate governance research attempt to find a relationship between boards of directors’ composition and firm financial performance. Specifically, we try to examine the relationship between the boards’ size, board independence, CEO duality and gender diversity and two measurements of performance in listed companies in CAC 40, namely return on assets (ROA) and return of equities (ROE). We found evidence provide that board characteristics were positively correlated to the firm’ performance. However, our results show a significant association between ROE, ROA and the board of directors’ composition. We find significant negative association between financial information and equity-based management compensation. On the other hand, the presence of independent directors on the board seems to affect, positively, the level of financial performance of CAC 40 firms. Likewise, the stewardship theory assumption, the CEO duality is very high and is significantly associated with a higher level of firm performance. The results show that there was a significant relationship between board gender diversity and firm performance from our samples CAC 40 companies. In addition, we find significant negative impact of leverage on the financial performance for CAC 40 firms.
