Ramification of crowdfunding on Bangladeshi entrepreneur’s self-efficacy Pages 129-138 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Abu Shams Mohammad Mahmudul Hoque, Zainudin Bin Awang, Habsah Muda, Fauzilah Salleh

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2018.4.001

🔑 Keywords: Crowdfunding, Entrepreneur Self-efficacy, Structural equation modeling (SEM)

Abstract:
The novel funding sources turn out to be important for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sector all over the world especially after 2007-2008 world financial crisis. Thus, to develop a new business idea and start-ups, SMEs need a sufficient amount of capital. However, after the financial crisis in 2008, SME sector faced the challenges of attracting new capital. Therefore, an innovative method of fundraising for SME was introduced as crowdfunding. Crowdfunding indicates financing a project or an idea via the internet owing the help from the many investors or donors of a society. Since there are limited works about the influence of Crowdfunding on Entrepreneur Self-efficacy (ESE), hence, to minimize the research gap and to achieve the objective of the study, we conduct a quantitative research among 190 entrepreneurs in Bangladesh using crowdfunding based on Social Cognitive theory. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in IBM-SPSS-Amos 25.0 and the stated hypotheses were tested. The study found a direct and positive effect of Crowdfunding on Entrepreneur’s Self-efficacy (β=0.924, P=.001). Overall, the result has landed support for crowdfunding, which indicates that it can influence on self-efficacy of entrepreneur. In order to determine the need of crowdfunding, we have explained and statistically demonstrated how crowdfunding can provide a supplementary channel where firms can gain finance and to create self-efficacy of entrepreneurs through exploiting the potential of internet.

A structural equation model for evaluating user’s intention to adopt internet banking and intention to recommend technology Pages 139-152 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Samar Rahi, Mazuri Abd. Ghani, Abdul Hafaz Ngah

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2018.3.002

🔑 Keywords: Internet Banking, UTAUT2, Perceived Technology Security, Intention to Recommend, Structural equation modeling (SEM)

Abstract:
Although several prior research projects have focused on the factors that impact on the adoption of information technology, there are limited empirical research works that simultaneously capture technology factors (UTAUT2) and customer specific factors (perceived technology security and intention to recommend) helping users adopt internet banking. Thus, the current study aims to develop an integrated technology adoption model with extended UTAUT model and perceived technology security to predict and explain user’s intention to adopt internet banking and intention to recommend internet banking in social networks. A quantitative approach based survey was conducted to collect the data from 398 internet banking users. For statistical analysis, structural equation model (SEM) approach was used. Convergence and divergence with earlier findings were found, confirming that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivation and perceived technology security had significant influence on user’s intention to adopt internet banking. Additionally, IPMA analysis show that among all constructs hedonic motivation and perceived technology security had the highest impact on user’s intention to adopt internet banking. For researcher, this study provides a basis for further refinement of technology adoption model while for practitioner improving security factor (perceived technology security) may turn users towards adoption of internet banking.

Financial accountability, ethical issues and organizational citizenship behavior in fragile economic systems: The case of the Nigerian economy Pages 161-170 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Remi Chukwudi Okeke, Linda Oluchi Nwankpa

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2018.2.001

🔑 Keywords: Financial accountability, Ethical issues, Organizational citizenship behavior, Fragile economic systems

Abstract:
The general objective of this study is to examine the relationship among financial accountability, ethical issues and organizational citizenship behaviour, in a national economic system. The null hypothesis of the study examined the inverted trajectories of the variables. The work is situated within the context of Nigeria’s national economy, which typifies a fragile economic system. We have argued in the work that the fragility of the Nigerian national economic system (which is representative of similar economies among developing nations) is a function of its input-output processes. The study essentially finds that to reverse the trend of fragility in an economic system (a national economic system) in the context of developing economies, the issues of financial accountability, ethical questions and great organizational citizenship behaviour must in their combinatory format, be elevated to the status of a national imperative. We found in the work, that ethical regeneration is antecedent to institutional reform, in the schemata of mechanisms, for reversing the tendency of fragility, in troubled economic systems, classifiable as developing or underdeveloped.

Authors: Hossein Akbari Fard, Sayyed Abdolmajid Jalaee, Seyed Bagher Fazayel Ardakani

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2018.1.001

🔑 Keywords: Wages, Labor productivity, Skilled labor productivity, Unskilled labor productivity, Self-explanatory patterns with distributive interruptions

Abstract:
The productivity of labor and wages are two important variables in the market. Identification of the relationship between the labor and the wages can help policymakers and employers make important decisions about workers' wages. This research uses the statistical data from 1974 to 2014 in Iran to explore the effect of the total labor productivity as well as the productivity of skilled and unskilled labor on the wage level. The results of the research in the long-run indicate that, for the case of skilled and unskilled labor productivity, skilled labor productivity maintained a negative effect on the wage level and the unskilled labor productivity had a positive effect on the wage level. In addition, the total labor productivity had a positive impact on the wage level; the results also indicate that the level of education had a positive impact on the wage level and the impact of government size on the level of wage was negative and statistically insignificant.

Authors: Amir Ahmad Dar, N. Anuradha

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2017.11.001

🔑 Keywords: PD, BSM, Taguchi method, Regression line, ANOM, ANOVA

Abstract:
The Taguchi’s orthogonal array is based on a mathematical model of factorial designs. This paper investigates the effects of four parameters in Probability of Default (PD) using Black-Scholes model (BSM) for call option at one period by considering asset value V, firm’s debt X, expected growth r and the volatility σ. The main aim is to determine which parameters affect mostly on PD of a firm. The experiment is based on the orthogonal array L9 in which the four parameters are varied at three levels. Finally, the ANOM is used to describe the best combination and ANOVA is implemented to measure the contribution of the given independent variables.

An investigation on the effect of risk management on earnings volatility for shares of banks listed in Tehran Stock Exchange Pages 123-128 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Hamid Reza Kordlouie, Leila Sadeghi, Nahid Sadeghi

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2017.10.001

🔑 Keywords: Risk management, Earnings volatility, Bank, Tehran Stock Exchange

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the effect of risk management on earnings volatility on shares of banks listed in Tehran Stock Exchange. The statistical population includes all 20 listed banks in Tehran Stock Exchange over the period 2009-2015. As the number of listed banks in Tehran Stock Exchange was limited, census method and multiple regressions in panel data were used to collect the data and to test the hypotheses, respectively. In this study, earnings volatility was calculated given in Dichev and Tang (2009) [Dichev, I. D., & Tang, V. W. (2009). Earnings volatility and earnings predictability. Journal of Accounting and Economics, 47(1), 160-181.]. The results indicate that the coefficient of risk management was -0.20 with Sig. = 0.002; therefore risk management maintains a negative effect on banks’ profitability volatility. In addition, stock return coefficient is 0.0053 (Sig. = 0.000) which indicates a positive effect on earnings volatility. The coefficients of dividend ratio, firm size and liquidity ratio were 0.023, 0.071 and 0.059, respectively and they have significant and positive effect on earnings volatility.

A framework for evaluating the performance of automated teller machine in banking industries: A queuing model-cum-TOPSIS approach Pages 53-62 PDF Download PDF

Authors: Christopher Osita Anyaeche, Desmond Eseoghene Ighravwe

doi 10.5267/j.ac.2017.9.001

🔑 Keywords: Automated teller machine, Queuing theory, Performance index, TOPSIS

Abstract:
The improvement in the provision of banking services to customers enhances bank’s performance (profitability and productivity) and the amounts of dividend declared to shareholders as well as bank’s competitiveness. One means of fast tracking the service time for bank customers is through the use of self-servicing machines, such as automated teller machine (ATM). Total service cost, expected waiting time in queue, ATM utilization and percentage of customer loss are some of the performance indices that are used to evaluate the service rendered by a bank’s ATM. This study proposes a framework for evaluating the performance of ATM by integrating queuing model and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methodology. Applicability of the framework was tested using practical data obtained from four banks in Nigeria. It was observed that the average ATM usage in the study area was less than 50%. The TOPSIS results identified Bank A as the best ranked bank. In addition, the results obtained revealed that banks with two ATM were ranked higher than banks with more than two ATM.
