Developing a location-inventory-routing model using METRIC approach in inventory policy Pages 337-358 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

DOI: 10.5267/j.uscm.2017.4.003

Keywords: LIRP model, Integrated supply chain, Metric approach, Metaheuristic algorithm, One-for-one replenishment policy

Abstract:
Locating, routing and inventory control in production and distribution centers are the most important decisions in supply chain management. Because of the dependence of these decisions to each other, considering these three aspects simultaneously can have a huge impact on cost reduction. In this study, first, a location-inventory model is developed by utilizing METRIC approach and then, METRIC approach is applied to the location-inventory-routing model. The intended supply chain includes a supplier, distributors and retailers, and the inventory control policy is implemented for both the distributors and retailers. Retailers' demand follows Poisson distribution and the lead-time is also considered probabilistic and is affected by the shortage in distribution centers. Given that the presented model belongs to the class of NP-hard problems, a hybrid metaheuristic solution method is also presented to solve the resulted problem. The proposed hybrid metaheuristic algorithm contains a Simulated Annealing algorithm, to optimize the location-routing problem, and a Genetic Algorithm, to optimize the inventory problem. Also, to evaluate the performance of hybrid algorithm, a comparison between the results of the proposed hybrid algorithm and the exact solutions obtained from Lingo software is provided and, finally, the results are analyzed.

Using fuzzy logic to improve the project time and cost estimation based on Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) Pages 183-196 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Farhad Habibi, Omid Taghipour Birgani, Henk Koppelaar, Stojan Radenović

DOI: 10.5267/j.jpm.2018.4.002

Keywords: Project management, Time estimation, Cost estimation, PERT, Fuzzy logic, Trapezoidal fuzzy numbers

Abstract:
Among different factors, correct scheduling is one of the vital elements for project management success. There are several ways to schedule projects including the Critical Path Method (CPM) and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT). Due to problems in estimating dura-tions of activities, these methods cannot accurately and completely model actual projects. The use of fuzzy theory is a basic way to improve scheduling and deal with such problems. Fuzzy theory approximates project scheduling models to reality by taking into account uncertainties in decision parameters and expert experience and mental models. This paper provides a step-by-step approach for accurate estimation of time and cost of projects using the Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and expert views as fuzzy numbers. The proposed method included several steps. In the first step, the necessary information for project time and cost is estimated using the Critical Path Method (CPM) and the Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT). The second step considers the duration and cost of the project activities as the trapezoidal fuzzy numbers, and then, the time and cost of the project are recalculated. The duration and cost of activities are estimated using the questionnaires as well as weighing the expert opinions, averaging and defuzzification based on a step-by-step algorithm. The calculating procedures for evaluating these methods are applied in a real project; and the obtained results are explained.

Resource-constrained project scheduling problem: review of past and recent developments Pages 55-88 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Farhad Habibi, Farnaz Barzinpour, Seyed Jafar Sadjadi

DOI: 10.5267/j.jpm.2018.1.005

Keywords: Project scheduling, Optimization, Resource constraint, Review, Classification

Abstract:
The project scheduling problem is both practically and theoretically of paramount importance. From the practical perspective, improvement of project scheduling as a critical part of project management process can lead to successful project completion and significantly decrease of the relevant costs. From the theoretical perspective, project scheduling is regarded as one of the in-teresting optimization issues, which has attracted the attention of many researchers in the area of operations research. Therefore, the project scheduling issue has been significantly evaluated over time and has been developed from various aspects. In this research, the topics related to Re-source-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem (RCPSP) are reviewed, recent developments in this field are evaluated, and the results are presented for future studies. In this regard, first, the standard problem of RCPSP is expressed and related developments are presented from four as-pects of resources, characteristics of activities, type of objective functions, and availability level of information. Following that, details about 216 articles conducted on RCPSP during 1980-2017 are expressed. At the end, in line with the statistics obtained from the evaluation of previ-ous articles, suggestions are made for the future studies in order to help the development of new issues in this area.

A survey on Australian supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic and key resilience strategies Pages 145-148 Right click to download the paper Download PDF

Authors: Farhad Habibi

DOI: 10.5267/j.jfs.2022.10.004

Keywords: Supply chain management, Resilience, COVID-19 pandemic, Disruption

Abstract:
COVID-19 pandemic was one of the most severe sources of disruptions that recently threatened the supply chain networks. As such disruptions are inevitable in today's business world, learning lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic can significantly help supply chains prepare for future disruptions. This study aims to investigate how Australian supply chains were affected during the COVID-19 pandemic and provide some key resilience strategies to face disruptions. These strategies can assist SC managers in protecting their networks from possible disruption in future.
